He could be a sleeper. Having Sutter to coach him is a plus. I love his size.

I think we need to pump the brakes on that thread for now... Could really look bad in short order.

Yeah this could come down to a small sample size for sure. Honestly I don't think he can maintain this pace for a season.

The upside is he's playing for his perfect coach and that alone will make him a competent 5/6 guy on a thin blueline.

Fingers crossed.

Fingers crossed indeed. But he’s almost 30. It’s unrealistic to expect massive growth at this point. Hopefully Sutter can just put him in the best situations as possible to succeed.

If he can become 3/4 of what Engelland was I would be thrilled.

I think he's got a lock on the third pairing RD.

If one of Tanev or Andersson needs a maintenance game, you slot Stone in their place.

I was probably the only one here that didn't mind adding Gudbransson. He's never been as bad as people made him out to be. But adding both him and Zadorov seems redundant, neither are good with the puck and play a similar role.

Troy Brouwer also looked good his first couple weeks as a Flames. Happy Guds is playing well, but we'll see if he can sustain it all season long. Not ready to proclaim it a 'win' as of yet.

There's the "aha" comment! This is a Sutter team as if all the beef he asked for and got, didn't give it away. With Huska as an assistant and Sutters clear vision of what a defenseman has to do, he can turn sows ears into silk purses.

LA didn't get lucky and draft well. Sutter took what he had and straightened it out making the whole D corps down there look invincible for a while.

We all know Zadarov had a really poor game passing and on break outs two games ago. I don't share the opinion that now Zadarov is a write off. On the contrary I suspect he'll get into the flow better as the year goes on. He's got the right instructors in Sutter and Huska.

Besides being a ski freak I also drag raced until frickin Bronnconier and then Nenshi killed our race track.

That's why I don't complain about our players very much because as we all know, like it or not "Ya gotta run what ya brung".

Is this actually true? I don’t ever remember thinking Brouwer was any good? Maybe one preseason game Bennett-Brouwer worked?

Yeah, I don’t recall this. He had a good game here and there but not off the bat and not sustained over 3 games.

Who will the whipping boy be now? Gudbranson was shaping up to fill that role a few weeks ago.

Zadorov??

As I said earlier the gotcha moments have been a little early ... it's only 3 games. They honestly pushed my buttons as much as the chicken little crowd losing it after two games and two losses.

But most that weren't going over the top about the guy being terrible kept pointing to the fact that this is defenseman number 6 on a team that has a weak defense core and needed more help. He just doesn't move the needle all that much, and won't.

The league is thin on defenseman that were available. Edmonton added very average defenders, Vancouver ... and Calgary.

Just hoping that the Sutter effect continues to elevate him from a guy that looked to be done (from some reports) to a guy that can be an average #6.

I’m still scarred from Zyuzin, Kravchuk and Eriksson signings.

As long as he’s not one of those guys it’s a win in my mind.

He won’t be those guys as they were all somewhat skilled guys with flaws defensively and a lack of physicality. And really poor decision making
Gud is almost the opposite in that he’s physical and theoretically a stay at home guy.
What they may have in common is the poor hockey sense and decision making
