I always thought Monahan's inclusion in the proposals was just to make the salaries work. Flames cannot take on Eichel without a significant salary dump. It would pretty much have to be $10 million in and out.

3) It's been three years since he's earned his contract
Lindholm has a very positive contract, As good as he's been Monahan now has a negative value contract.

Buffalo can retain on Monahan and flip to a third team. Worth 1st+ and a bidding war. Calgary could have done the same if they didn't take on so many UFAs this summer. Tre making things hard on Tre.

Yeah I think at this point, the value of Monahan is dropping fast. Trading him before the season start was the best opportunity for us because we were still able to hang our hats on Monahan being injured and having to get surgery as an excuse for his lack of production. Now that he's playing and "healthy", although I don't think he's been that bad, he's still not producing and being relegated to 4th line duties may continue his drop in value.
If we are still in the hunt for Eichel, and Monahan is included in the offer, we'll need to up the package unfortunately. If Sabres are asking for Hanifin in the package, I think we should get on it. Hanifin is a bit overrated in my opinion.
Monahan, Hanifin, 1st, Pelletier.
I don't think Hanifin makes or breaks us.

The only rumor mentioning Hanifin to my knowledge was one tweet from the "SabresBuzz" account.

Monahan and Zadorov make it work.
1st (unprotected), Coronato, Valimaki, 23 2nd (turns into 1st if Flames win Cup in 22 or 23)
Sabres can flip Monahan and Zadorov by the deadline. Monahan might need to be flipped immediately if he won’t waive for Buffalo

The price is going to be lower than a lot of these proposals. The Sabres couldn’t get the equivalent of four 1sts in the summer. Their position today is weaker and the number of bidders lower. The deal will be closer to the equivalent of three 1sts, and have conditions attached. It will also have to involve substantial salary going back to the Sabres.
* Roster player with at least $5 mil cap hit
* Good, but not blue-chip prospect
* 1st or equivalent picks
* Another pick contingent on games played by Eichel

If they were going to drop the ask that low it would be done already.

I want Eichel but not at the expense of Hanifin or Lindholm in the deal.

That would still make him the only name out there as an ask though right?

Your right the final price is probably lower. Theres also the ask that Buffalo is still at and its probably for the Eichel of a year ago.
Hence why no deal is done yet.

]Why would a team with Dahlin and Powers even want Hanifin? They'd be looking at Andersson or, maybe even Tanev I assume.

We’ll see. The uncertainty around Eichel’s health diminishes his value significantly. His massive cap-hit, moved mid-season when teams have almost no cap flexibility, diminishes it further. And none of the teams rumoured to be in the bidding are desperate. They have all the leverage.

The Flames are trying to get Eichel because they want to win now.
They can't gut their ####ing team adding him. What's the point of that?
Monahan and Zadarov for cap purposes, plus futures.

Wouldnt Eichel be on LTIR until the last 3rd of the season best case scenario.
You can figure out everything else in the summer.
Just saying it doesn't have to be 10 in and 10 out.

I'm not sure if this has been asked, but with Eichel, couldn't we pull a Tampa Bay? Put him on LTIR for 1/2 the year, then bring him back without cap consequences?
If we can do this, we really only need to send back 4m since we have 1m space. We could also really pull a Tampa and keep him on IR "recovering" for longer then 1/2 the season.

Just wait until we acquire Jack Eichel and I never shut up about how great of a linemate Sam Bennett would be for him.
