Just so much to be mad about.
I also live in Ward 4. He’ll be a pariah on Council, and likely won’t get much support from his colleagues, which means he won’t be able to accomplish much, if anything. You can argue whether that’s any different than the previous 8 years.

And while he’s still just one of 15 votes, perhaps this will push him to actually do something good, instead of just collecting a paycheque and being hated for four years. Wishful thinking, I know.

If it comes down to simply having to pay him out for the next 4 years of his council salary, then simply ask him to leave, you offer that.

What part of this is the rule of law? It’s a stupid ceremony. Not all institutional norms are created equal. This one means almost nothing.

Yep so the timing of the reports on his interference with a minor and his domestic incident with his wife and gun had a big impact on the election.

I'd like to see that compared with advanced vs. election-day polls in other wards. I assume that it would reveal that this is a way bigger shift than we saw in any other race, but that seems like an important part of the story.

Do we yet know why the publication ban ended the day before the election? How does that even work? I'm wondering when it was put into place and how long it lasted.

Was it deliberately set to end on Friday to save his re election campaign? If yes, it must have only been put in place recently. But the event occurred so long ago, I would have figured the publication ban was in place for quite a while. Or was the information only made available for journalists recently?

The whole thing just reeks. That's where the real investigation should be. How this entire saga was set up to avoid hurting his reelection.

In looking around a bit more into Publication Bans, I found this little tidbit:

Quote:
In the case of sexual offences, the Criminal Code says a judge must order a publication ban to protect the identity of all victims of sexual offences and witnesses of sexual offences who are less than 18 years old. In these cases, the judge tells the victim, witness or Crown prosecutor that they may make a request for this protection. If a request is made, the judge must order a publication ban.

After all this stuff, it's very shameful that over 6800 people voted for Sean Chu on election day.

The only other ward where advanced voting and election day voting showed an interesting trend is Ward 9. Carra had 2556 advanced votes to 2342 for Withers. Withers had more votes on election day though with 4411 to 4318 for Carra.

The difference is now 100 votes instead of 52. Was there some recount other than the one denied by the returning officer? I wonder how the official count would come out differently than the unofficial ones using the tabulators. I'm not suggesting anything nefarious, just unclear on how a recount isn't justified when there can be a swing of 48 votes afterwards.

Yeah, really the culprit here is the Gag Order.

People didnt know until it was essentially too late. And frankly, that does not seem like a coincidence.

This was posted in the other thread:

Quote:
Some of the final counts were adjusted up as they discovered that some of the mail-in vote counts weren't properly included in the unofficial numbers. None of the adjustments were enough to change any of the final results, in fact, the two closest races, Wards 4 & 9 saw the margin of victory increase.
Too bad — a 48 vote swing the other way would have been almost enough to change the outcome…

I think some of that move is probably just GOTV experience that campaigns like Carra might’ve had versus a newcomer?
