Yeah calls for crow eating every two or three games by both sides will get pretty annoying.

I think Darryl has put Gudbranson in a good spot. Not asking him to do more than he is capable of.

I am the original Gudbranson hipster. I was all for the signing when it was first rumoured. A big right-handed defenseman is what the team needed.
I say this while acknowledging that I was going a lot off of name recognition and didn't pay any attention to his recent stints. It wasn't an informed opinion at the time, but I liked it conceptually.

Darryl seems to do well with these kinds of players. He had Commodore playing above his level back in the day.

Weird that’s the identical screen shot I took for the game thread yesterday. CP user post it or just coincidence? Not looking for compensation, just thought it was interesting.

True, but since we are all fans of the team, here, then I don't see why there would be any reason at all to complain about celebrating a good performance from a player. On the other hand, those posters who seem to want nothing more than to wallow in misery (not you, Erick) should come to expect a response in kind from the fans of the team who enjoy watching the games and seeing them win.

We can draw at least one conclusion:

It is now certain that Gudbranson can play NHL-level hockey, at least some of the time. Some posters were insisting that he could not do it at all. Some said he could at one time but had lost the ability; some said he never had it. And a number of people were proclaiming that both Treliving and Sutter were fools for wanting him on the team.

Gudbranson hasn't shown enough yet to call it a good signing. But I think he's shown enough to prove that it wasn't totally out to lunch.

And he is from the Detroit area. Dimes to donuts that's him. I wonder if he was there to cheer on the organization he is still technically getting paid by, or if he was there hoping they lose so he can be smug about it.

What's happening with him right now? Last I recall, the Flames hadn't waived him yet and he was in limbo.

Yeah I'll be one to eat crow already on that.

I'm not sure he's had a 3 game stretch like this in his career, he's been legitimately great.

I think it really does just show that system and how a d-man is slotted means so much to their effectiveness.

Any d-man can look bad when they are being played above their skill set, but slot them in the right role and it can work.

I really hope he can keep it up.

I don't think anything official has been said, other than he is not meeting the requirements that the organization has for vaccinations.

Cap Friendly has him listed on the IR, but it appears that he was sent home.
https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/flames
My guess is that the Flames don't want to deal with a fight that might occur if they demote him and figure it was easier to just pay him an NHL salary for now. But I also don't think IR can be used for vaccination issues, so there must be some other injury.

Nice result after some pretty bad opening games. The concerning part is that if this is the margin for success with this group, it is basically razor thin to non existent against any team you'd consider a contender.

He's probably loving life. I'm pretty sure if a player starts the season on IR they get paid their NHL salary.

If that was him I think its kind of sad, really.
He could have been on the ice with the team instead of sitting there watching them had things swung differently for him personally. Not just the recent vaccination issue. Which isn't helping obviously.

Though I don't care for Willis regardless of where he is calling the game from. I think he's pretty awful.
 |
He's an adequate PBP guy imo, and he has that sort of kid-friendly voice (not sure how else to describe it) with enough intensity on the goal calls that he doesn't sound corny.

But AS SOON as he makes any kind of remark on the game or asserts an opinion he sounds terrible and drags Loubo into his blind homerism. He bounces between ultra homer and apologist to where it borders on silly. Just needs to call the play and thats it.

His one flub was where IMO he got feeling a bit overconfident behind the net due to his strong game. After that he was back to playing within himself.
