Good for him, but don't kid yourself about Bennett's play. Bennett will go as far as Huberdeau can carry him, like like Anthony Duclair and a number of other players before him.
Even when you are flat out wrong and full of ####, you still bang on that drum. No matter how foolish it seems. Never change.

So you are cheering against the Flames? Because Tre isn't getting fired because a player that asked for a trade does well

He has been amazing for the Panthers, even though the last two games he has been playing hurt. Just looking at him on the bench, he has the eye of the tiger. He's been reborn.

It's sad that it didn't happen here, such a unique type player that you don't see around anywhere. This organization really messed up with him.

Realizing that he was at a career crossroads, St. Louis abandoned the changes to his game that his NHL coaches had impressed on him, trusting his own instincts.[5] He scored his first goal of the season in late November, and finished the season with 18 goals and 40 points – 34 of which came after December 1.[14]
Bennett just had to unlearn Gulutzan and Ward all this time

I still remember how Bennett did great with Gaudreau and Monahan as a RW when Ferland got hurt, only to be dumped back to his 'natural' position as Gulutzan just got his shiny new Chris Stewart off waivers to put on the first line.

I do think there is something to Gulutzan and Other coaches ruining him.

They made him passive and he didn’t trust his own skills.

He just played his game and played with confidence once he got to Florida.

There goes Bennett scoring unskilled goals that Huberdeau banks off his ass again. *eye roll*

People can call them garbage goals like they do Monahan's but they're anything but. Goals are goals and still count, why can't so many other players do it then, right.

The joke flew over your head, FBI was being facetious after Bennett's PP goal that had very little to do with Huberdeau

Okay maybe in this case as I didn't see this goal but it's not the first time we've heard that Bennett is just a beneficiary of Huberdeau.

There's also just so much sarcasm on here now and if one's sarc meter isn't constantly on it's easy to miss.

I totally hear you.

It's just that as many of Bennett's goals this year have been more conventionally "skilled" than the easy setups that Lindholm has been leading our team with, yet the narrative around Bennett is that he's just crashing the net while Huberdeau is some sort of savant, while a Flame like Gaudreau or Tkachuk could never set up the plays to Bennett that Lindholm has been making hay on. It's funny, really.

Sam Bennett would be the best center on the Calgary Flames.

I don’t think that’s the argument so much as Huberdeal and Bennet are much more complementary for each other than any Flane forward would have been. Their style and skill sets mesh better.

Ryan O'Reilly

Brayden Schenn

Nazem Kadri

Just off the top of my head. All ended up being moved for reasonable prices, and two were major reasons St. Louis did what they did. I know Flash (RIP) had pretty strong feelings on BT's inability to acquire either of them.

Nope. He’s not a better player than Lindholm or Backlund. Otherwise he would still be a Flame.

Wait. These are the dominant 1Cs the Flames missed on? ROR was not exactly a hot commodity though I wanted to see a trade involving Backlund at the time. And the other two are 2Cs at best and neither are dominant puck possession guys. Plus Treliving did move to acquire Kadri. Had it done. You can’t blame him for Kadri not being here.

Lindholm is a better C than Kadri or Schenn.

This thread needs to be moved to the 'Entertainment' forum so we don't have to see this crap every day.

Fair enough, only ROR would be considered a 1C. I guess I didn't read carefully enough; thought the discussion was about top 6 centres who drove possession that were available.

I'm no advanced stats expert, but a cursory glance at Schenn's numbers and his CF% is pretty up there.

Apples and oranges in the evaluation processm

Lindholm was never asked to play his offwing. And even if he's a better winger than Bennett, that does not mean he's a superior center in the areas of driving play down the middle. And even dating back to before we acquired him, Bennett had better 5v5 point rates than Hurricanes Lindholm who only had icetime and opportunity in his favour.

Backlund looked horrible at RW with Gaudreau and Monahan too. And Bennett has shown under Quennville how strong his 300 foot game is.

Bennett never centered Tkachuk, Gaudreau, Mangiapane, etc. Lindholm never not centered one or more of those three.

Clearly he's becoming a legend if he's playing 300 feet and the rink is only 200.

The fun part about a thread is that you don't have to open it.
