So stay with me on this one, all police related criminal charges, etc are public record just like they are for everyone else. Go check for yourself instead of making outlandish claims.
I recognize that this is an uphill battle. That there is a loud anti-police sentiment on CP and there always has been. That no amount of reason or otherwise presentation of a set of alternative facts or ideas will ever be considered. But man, there's literally no amount of constructive or alternative narratives that are acceptable.

I never claimed any of that. The publication ban was granted by the court for the benefit of the police, as far as I can tell. No kahoots required, just an examination of why the ban was required. This is the ask.
Sure all police related criminal charges are public record, but it has to get to a charge before that is possible. The police will have something to do with that. It doesn't take any sort of conspiracy to see that conflict of interest. Further, the issue goes beyond actual criminal behaviour and that of a fiduciary duty of an authority figure. I would be equally pissed if this was a lawyer, doctor, priest, school teacher. In this case, it is a cop.

Yeah, this isn’t a police thing. Publication bans can be imposed by the crown at the request of minors to protect their identity and privacy. And since their privacy can often be compromised if the perpetrator is identified, the ban can extend to the accused. It has nothing to do with protecting police or the accused.

Explain the idea it was put in place FOR the benefit of the police. I think it was put in place FOR the benefit of the victim (which is very common) and 24 years down the road, we look back and it clearly did benefit Chu. There's a difference though.

In most munis the mayor is first sworn in and then swears in the councillors. I don’t live in Calgary and don’t know what they do. I also doubt that the mayor has any ability to refuse to swear in a councillor.

If a mayor could unilaterally prevent a councillor from being sworn in we would have a significant risk in our democracy.

Chu is apparently doing a press conference today at 3:30 but I saw it mentioned that he does not plan on resigning and will be laying out his intention to represent ward 4.

He is a former Police officer tho....surely he will tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth!
Should we have a bet on whether he wears all of his medals at the presser?

If it’s not a resignation, I expect him to blame everybody for being so mean to him.

I fully expect him to say this is a conspiracy, a character assassination, and blame the victim for her part in this mess.
Then say he was given a clear mandate to lead Ward 4 and his track record of success speaks for itself. (even only winning by 52 votes).
This is when I hope they catapult him into space.

What in his history gives you the hope that this man considers anything?

He should do a Trudeau style un-apology so we can forgive him and he can carry on, something like
"I made a mistake, I think all Canadians can learn from this, relationships with under age girls is wrong, and I am deeply sorry that Canadians are thinking about this instead of celebrating the election results"

I think people view sexual assault more seriously than blackface.
This will be a anchor that will be incredibly challenging for him to overcome. It will always remain above this head. It feels like he's just delaying the inevitable by holding off from resigning if that's his intentions.
