If Sean Chu hangs on and wins ward 4 and doesn't resign, ward 4 is going to have very poor representation.
Sean Chu was never good a good councilor anyway, but losing both Magliocca and Farkas hurts... And I don't think he is going to find any new friends on council, even the more conservative ones are going to stay away from him.

My trustee candidate (Dana Downey, against the UCP curriculum draft, and winner!) sent an email last night and said that they'd be rounding up the lawn signs starting today.
This is the first time that I have had a candidate come and get their sign on private property, but it works for me. I hope that they get re-used in 4 years, if needed.
Of course, pre-election sign disappearances are a different thing entirely.

I would think that the further north you go, the less support going to permanent MDT/CST there will be.

The total number of votes cast will be very close to 2017. Right now, with 3 polling stations still uncounted, 382,197 votes have been cast for mayor. In 2017, it was 387,583.
In 2017, that was 58.1% of eligible voters.
The city didn't do an enumeration for this year's election. I don't know if there's a final count of eligible voters, but it's likely a small increase from 2017. From what I can find, it's estimated that Calgary's population has grown by about 100,000 in the last 4 years, but a lot of those are going to be children or recent immigrants who aren't eligible to vote.
With a small decrease of total votes and a small increase in eligible voters, the percentage will likely be down from 2017, but still likely in the high 50s.

I know the votes have technically been cast already, but here is some DJ mojo in any event:

Fluoride is done. It passed.
DST, not really, not all jurisdictions released results, including Edmonton. In Calgary, 'no' won by about 10k votes. Province will announce on the 26th.

I have never actually been there, and don't see it happening anytime soon, but the border town thing is something I have wondered.

I lived there for a couple of years but that was in the late 80's/early 90's so much has changed. But working with people who lived on both sides and most had intentionally chosen which province to reside on for various reasons. I only knew one guy who moved back and forth depending on his driving record (and therefore what his vehicle insurance would be).
It's an interesting city. As getback noted there is no PST charged on the Sask side and fuel taxes are (were) the same on both sides so business on one side of the border would not be at a disadvantage. Students on both sides graduate with an Alberta high school diploma IIRC, and minor sports are conducted under Alberta regulations (Hockey Alberta etc.) if memory serves.

I consider myself to be quite politically engaged, and I've never watched a council meeting - I get my info from secondary sources. I think you're an outlier if you actually have.

Hopefully someone dumped water on the machines and torched the ballots so everyone can try again.
This is your last warning, Ward 4!

My guess is Chu came out on top, and they are trying to figure out what recourse they have before making it official. Nothing else makes sense.

Gross. Even without the latest creepy news, that was way closer than it should've been.
What now? Hopefully a very public investigation into his alleged pedo actions and the CPS allegedly doing their best to cover it up. This whole thing is disgusting.

With it being scantron, there isn't any point doing a recount. Maybe the mail in ballots? 52 is so close, I feel bad for DJ with that margin.

All council can do is vote to strip his office of funding and try to convince him to resign. Hard to do this job without an office assistant.

My information is about 25 years out of date, but when I lived there, the Alberta side was more-preferred because the provincial taxes were quite a bit lower. When I lived there, the population was about 17,000, which was split about 10,000 AB and 7,000 SK. I think the disparity is even bigger now, with a total population around 30,000 and about 2/3 in Alberta.
For me, as an early-20s male, it was actually cheaper to live in Saskatchewan because the car insurance was significantly cheaper. Also, rent was quite a bit cheaper in SK (as were house prices).
I don't know if there's a significant difference for businesses, but most retail businesses are in Alberta. I don't know if that's for financial reasons or if they all just tend to cluster together along the main traffic routes because no one wants to build a store far away from all the other stores in town.
Also, with the lower drinking age, most of the nightlife was on the Alberta side.

From all accounts, I think his performance would change if he had an office assistant or not.
