Fule re-elected. I like Fule a lot - he taught 2 of my kids and coached my oldest. My oldest volunteered as coach for a couple of his STARS camps. Good guy.
Mitzner ran? Ewww, that woman is sketchy.

Dhaliwal has in his platform to have free transit for all.
I’d say that’s pretty progressive.

I play beer league hockey against Chabot. When he ran for mayor he came up to us after the game while we were having parking lot beers and told us to vote for him because he can do a handstand and walk on his hands and Nenshi can’t.
He then proceeded to actually do a handstand and walk around the middle of the parking lot on his hands. Got up and gave us all a “Vote for Chabot” sticker. Then he walked away. It was one of the most bizarre encounters I’ve ever had.

It's going to be embarrassing to watch Edmonton to elect another progressive as mayor, while we bring in another Kenney lapdog.
I would assume the equalization thing will pass in a landslide. Generations of inbreeding have rendered wide swaths of this province immune to common sense and reason. The fact that these rural dolts can't even grasp the simple concept of where funding comes from, and why Alberta "pays more" is truly an awe-inspiring level of ignorance.

This has aged well.

Honestly, I'm a bit tired of CP's constant labelling Albertans as dumb, rural people as dumb, if someone doesn't understand a particular question, dumb. I'm not an expert on the multitude of issues brought up in the CP political threads but I try and educate myself on the ones that interest me or, in this case, have to vote on.
The DST question had implications that are not immediately apparent for people who only know they need to change the clocks twice a year. This is as much a fault with the question as it is the fault of someone who fails to look into the issue. If anything, it could be an indictment of direct democracy initiatives.

I voted for the person my neighbour told me to vote for and she won. Does that make me a bad person? I had almost zero knowledge of any of the candidates, still do.
I knew what she looked like from a giant sign, that was about my extent of being informed. She has a PHD which I find encouraging (found that out 2 minutes ago).

We don't think Albertans are dumb. Well we do, but we think most people are dumb - Albertan or not.

Do you trust your neighbour?
Have you had political conversations before and generally agree with him/her on policy issues?
If yes, then why not.

Its sheer ignorance.
I've been all around this country. Rural BC...where Vancouverites' bicycles cant take them. Rural Ontario and Quebec?
Lol....sheer ignorance.

I tried to find information about the Provincial DST referendum in other cities.
From what I could find, Red Deer, Lethbridge, and Medicine Hat all went with slight majorities for YES to DST. Because of their much lower populations and low turnout, I don't think their combined differentials are enough to overcome the lead that NO has in Calgary. I couldn't find any results for Edmonton or the bigger northern cities. It will likely come down to which way Edmonton voted. If Edmonton voted NO at about the same percentage as Calgary, it will likely fail.
The Equalization referendum looks to be an easy win for YES.

Why make the effort to vote if you don't know anything about the candidates? I just don't understand how someone can care enough to actually vote, but not enough to spend 10 minutes browsing the candidate websites to find a platform you like

I guess that makes me a bad person, so be it. I wanted to vote so that is how I did it. I don't talk to my neighbour about politics much if at all but I trust them as a person.

My issue with the DST question was the fact that it never clearly said that "summer hours" were the time shifted hours. I'm guessing the average uninformed voter would have trouble telling you when DST was active (summer vs winter) - all they know is the clocks change in the spring and fall. This makes the question harder to answer properly in my opinion. Word the question like this:
"Do you want Alberta to adopt year round Daylight Savings Time, which is when the clocks are one hour ahead of our regular time zone in the summer, eliminating the need to change the clocks twice a year?"
I think that question, while asking the same thing essentially, gets a materially different result.

I'm 90% sure it did say something very similar to that, just less wordy.
"Do you want Alberta to adopt year-round Daylight Saving Time, which is summer hours, eliminating the need to change our clocks twice a year?" is how it's written on elections calgary

My small town re elected Craig Snodgrass as Mayor.
We also had a non binding plebisite on spending 15 million to expand our pool and rec complex. The preliminary results are as follows: 1865 voted YES, 2211 voted NO. Results of the referendum vote are being provided to new Town Council for consideration and final decision and will be shared with residents at a future Council meeting.
No mention on DST vote.
