For real though, Tkachuk's swat to keep the puck from going out was a straight up great play. Tkachuk doesn't kill penalties. He just kept Backlund on the ice for the PK. Never seen that before, but it's hilarious and awesome.

They still do that dumb drop pass and they clog up the blue line, so Johnny has nowhere to go. Frustrating. But Johnny certainly is trying to get through.

It's past the boards...if its not going over the glass and you knock it down its nothing. Happens every time the puck goes out at the bench. Ref kinda made it up on the fly there IMO.
Either way its a good play...kept a PKer out of the box

I watch the replay and almost wonder if his thinking process was "best case prevent a penalty / worst case we don't lose Backlund on the PK." I mean, that would be an absolutely ridiculous level of hockey IQ, but Chucky is the one guy I can think of that would be able to think of sometglhing like that.

Yeah I get that, I still think the ref kinda took it into his own hands because their isn't a specific rule.
The puck is out of play
It should be a penalty but it would have been great for the league to have to put in a specific rule after this

I would have just told the ref I was trying to protect the fans. There's no netting there. We have netting because someone died from getting hit by a puck, what happens if that happens this time too?
