Hate the way this team is run some days.

Zadorov hasn't played up to where he's been slotted since day one, whereas Kylinton has played over his head, and when he came back to earth a bit he was still better than Zadorov and his wheels are more useful in the top 4 than Zadorov's occasional hit.

Figure it out Flames, or this will be the d-man version of Bennett. Mark my words..

Management seems to have a pretty short leash/small window where you better figure it out or else. You think the young guys haven’t noted what happened with Bennett and now Kylington? They are probably afraid to make a mistake and it’s holding back Dube, Anderson and Valimaki. Management did nothing to develop Gaudreau… he was already older and set when he got to the Flames. Monahan is joined at the hip to Johnny and never learned anything else lol. Mangiapane will succeed in spite of anything management does or doesn’t do because of his nature.

Top level AHL quality management is what the Flames have.

What has happened to Kylington? team is giving him NHL games when the entire league passed him through waivers. Dube played on the 2nd line last game, Vali is playing NHL games. Monahan scored 20 goals before Gaudreau was in the league. Some of these takes.

Flames succeed its in spite of management, they fail its on the team lol

Once again I'll ask the question. Do you think Treliving is bossing Sutter around on who he plays and who sits?

Ottawa is doing EXACTLY the same thing with Brannstrom. And there are probably a handful of other examples around the league.

Because it is SOP.

At this point breaking Mangiapane and Dube up would be a mistake. They've looked great together.

Backlund and Coleman could be a great 3rd line, ideally there's an upgrade on Lucic

I will say it again. Sutter “corrects” young guys completely differently than veterans, likely because he believes veterans work through issues that they already recognize while rookies need to be taught lessons. Ask Dube if he was treated differently than Lucic when they both had poor puck management at the blue line in the same game.

Also, we see Kylington making some nice plays. We may miss him doing certain things that coaches have asked him not to do (or not doing things they’ve instructed).

I swear the thought process for some is,

"I like player X and stupid management is blocking his path to making the team"

or

"Stupid coach doesnt play him even if management has kept him on the team"

When the truth is,

Both management AND coaching staff have watched this guy daily for literally years.

In games and in different situations within those games.

In practices and the various drills with different partners within those drills.

Coach after coach after coach have ALL reached the same conclusion about him.

There is something(s) in his game they simply aren't willing to gamble on a full time basis at this point.

I agree this year from limited viewing he has looked better than any time previous.

So maybe it is practice habits or a repeated mistake in certain drills, but there really will be a reason why he is or isn't getting ice time.

We simply don't know, but then turning that unknown into some silly trope that "management stifles every young guy" is patently false.

As noted before, this team has graduated a whole bunch of young guys into NHL players.

Icon48 New Flames website - start the conversation - shorty on Coleman

Hi all. Been a while since I have been on the forum but used to come chat about my articles when working for the Calgary Sun and covering the Flames for seven seasons after 2004.

Started a new site. Hope you'll read along. I'll be here frequently to talk about things I write or Flames in general and if there are things you want asked, let me know.

calgaryhockeynow.com

If you want to subscribe, it's a low-cost subscription (take another $10 off with the code Flames) for the whole year. Most content is free but the subscribers will get the additional, exclusive, content for deeper dives, features and added elements.

Enjoy the home opener!

Sometimes I think this is the problem.

I don't think it matters what profession it is, but sometimes when you are too close to somebody you create a bias.

I know I've done it at work before...you have the co-worker who maybe earlier in their career was just useless, and then once they are actually valuable maybe you are the last that they've changed because of the bias you have from working with them previously.

I do think that's happening a little bit right now with Kylington...he has this reputation as a high risk d-man and it might be tough to break that bias.

To summarize any success Flames' players/prospects have is despite what management does. However, any flaws in their game or failures are because of what Management does.

Maybe they have their reasons, but it doesn't make them always right.

Looks like the fans has it right with Bennett. Even though I even maligned other fans for constantly wanting to pencil Bennett in on the second line.

Sometimes guys really do just need an opportunity. A proper one at that, not one that is quickly revoked.

Kylington has done nothing egregious in the context of the games that I've seen. I've noticed him more for good reasons. Including the game in Edmonton. His speed was creating opportunities and zone time. We need that, with a blue line that isn't particularly mobile.

I personally think they're making mistakes with their approach based on what I've seen of OK. But that's me.

Maybe we're better off with Zadorov-Tanev's glowing 25 cf%. Or maybe Kylington is better slotted there. How do we know for sure if we don't see it. I sure as hell hope for Zadorov's sake that he has more to bring to the table in the 4 slot.

Didn't they have a ~44% of shot attempts against EDM? Also didn't they have a CF% of 57 in pre-season. Where did you get that number?
