Flames tonight at 5v5:
CF%: 63.41%
FF%: 61.19%
SF: 61.54%
SCF%: 67.57%
HDCF%: 58.82%
xGF%: 60.42%
Play like that (which Darryl Sutter hockey generally is) and they'll win a lot more than they lose.
McJesus is just too deadly on the PP.

Gudbranson only Flame to be a plus player. Zadorov is not good at all.

And that’s what an ELITE #1C does for a franchise.
I wonder where we can find one? Hmmm…

Something feels rotten with this group. I'd like to have been a fly on the wall for whatever the hell it is that tore them apart.

The effort was there, they'll be fine.
Two things:
1) the Oilers' D had a strong game
2) the Flames' Cs were awful. Monahan was good first few shifts but that was it, and Lindholm and Backlund were terrible
Mangiapane was the best Flame by far

If we let the other teams best player get a hattrick every game we'll be good? Dunno about that.

Tanev-Zadorov is not a pairing I want to see very much of.

I know all the headlines are going to be about the great Oilers being 2-0 but they have given up 85 shots in 2 games
some really fortunate bounces

Oilers scored two PP goals. That was the difference, yes- they will be fine. Just stay out of the box when you're playing McDavid obviously. Especially w/ grams in the house. Lethal combo.

There won't be that many PPs most nights
First game, HNIC, Oilers,
different rules

Season’s over we’re fooked and my Vegas bet of the Flames going undefeated is down the toilet, I doubt I’ll ever watch another game this season.
Trade everyone and everything in the dressing room, and all the players smell like elderberries, and I fart in their general direction.
This is the way amirite?

PK needs some work, so does the PP. Hopefully they will be able to make a couple more passes to make the opposition's goalie move from side to side... Like the Oilers did to us.
Really happy with the energy level, and that they didn't give up after going 3-0. Refs were garbage for most of the game, but I expect it in games against EDM.
Hopefully we'll see a bit more of Valimaki/Kylington soon. Hanifin was a stud tonight, so was Mangiapane.

Don't get the sky is falling crowd. That was a good game. Flames showed some rust this game with pucks bouncing around and passes missing by a touch - that makes you look and play slow. Gaudreau wouldn't miss that set-up normally - maybe it would have been a goal, maybe not, but that's ordinarily never a miss.
It is annoying playing the Oilers - you outplay them and out-chance them, and McDavid gets a few goals. I read somewhere in the GT (forgot who you are) saying you shouldn't pay Gaudreau and Tkachuk elite money since they can't score like the other team's elite players - that's a high bar. Show me two other players that keep up with McDavid and Draisaitl. Also, the alternative is rebuild. That's fine with me too, but it isn't going to happen.
Gudbranson was good this game. I know he went for the big hit early, but I would have liked to see him push his weight around a bit more throughout the game (though him knocking Puljujarvi down was nice). Kassian and Nurse didn't show much fear tonight, and I felt that they initiated more than the Flames. Also, Monahan has to engage a bit more and not just skate away every time, especially when it is obvious he isn't getting the call (WTF? How did Kassian not get a double there? High hit, holding the stick/having two sticks, but only gets called for the roughing with Zadorov?).
Flames are still on their way to being a different team. We won't know what they really are until 15 or 20 games in. Sky isn't falling tonight. Let's see how this plays out. Better than moaning and complaining all the time anyway.

This.
Generally they were the better team.
Even the top guys carried play:
Monahan: 76% xGF
Mangiapane: 72% xGF
Gaudreau/Tkachuk/Lindholm: 70% xGF
Team played fine. Oilers got the bounces and a bit of beneficial reffing tonight IMO.
