DUDE. YOU WERE A 34 YEAR OLD POLICE OFFICER. IN WHAT WORLD IS IT OKAY FOR A POLICE OFFICER TO SEXUALLY TOUCH A GIRL OR A WOMAN OF ANY AGE?
 |
The best case interpretation is off-duty 34 year old Chu took a girl he though was less than 20 but over 18 home and women claimed an assault occurred and then the police failed to investigate properly and for 10 years this women pursued justice.

That’s the best case.

Problem with that is how many of those votes were placed during mail-in or advance polls?

So Craig Chandler’s team stepped over my Evan Spencer sign and left me a last ditch, attack flyer in my front door today. I threw it in the garbage because the City of Calgary is pretty clear that absolute horse #### cannot go in the blue bin.
Hopefully this is the final loss this loser will lose and he will go on to do something other than run for any election in the future. Something like a quest to find out where his chin went. #### that guy.

You are probably a pretty terrible person if you advanced voted for Chu.

I’d say the bigger question is how many Chu voters will actually know about this news coming out the Friday afternoon before the election? If this is all “politics” as Chu suggests, wouldn’t it have been smarter to leak this two weeks ago?

Or a completely disengaged voter. Never attribute to malice what can adequately be explained by ignorance.

It wasn't a leak, it was a publication ban. From the CBC article.

Specifically answering the question in bold, pretty much any time they are both consenting adults, and the officer in question is off duty.

Sometimes the rage machine has to be honed and pointed in the correct direction, and thee risk of you looking like a bunch of irrational SJWs. Couldn't open the article so I am in very risky territory going off headlines and comments, but it sounds like this isn't the world Chu was occupying, but still that world does exist.

That's true, but that's also not the case here.

I don't think anyone thought I was saying police officers have to take a vow of celibacy to do their job, just that they shouldn't be sexually assaulting women and girls while on the job or in uniform or with their weapon on hand.

The dude's defense is literally
"Nobody witnessed it" and "I didn't know she was 16"
It doesn't ####ing matter what age he thought she was.

If there was a Publication Ban then Chu and his lawyers knew it would eventually come out.
Still ran for office anyway, because he figures it would blow over time.

Yes, that’s exactly the point. Chu is suggesting this is just some political stunt to smear him. But the timing is due to the court ordered publication ban:

	Quote:

		| In his written statement, Chu expressed concern with the reasoning behind the allegations coming to light 24 years after the incident.
"The timing … literally decades after both matters were resolved, is motivated by politics and not by justice," said Chu.
 |
Unless what Chu actually means is that the victim wasn’t motivated by justice and is trying to influence the election, which is just... gross.

And as if the timing for the information somehow absolves him. If we’d heard of this months ago, it wouldn’t make this better, and pretty clearly this coming out on Tuesday would’ve been far worse for the electorate. It’s overall disgusting.

I just checked, and neither the the herald or Sun have any mention of this story. Now, I know it was broken by CBC, but usually something this major will be covered by every media organization, even if it references CBC. This stinks. Media is failing us.

He should just step down now. I am surprised how he was able to quash this for so long. While I guess it wasn’t technically illegal at that time (not sure about the position of power aspect), you’d think there would be some hints of this floating around.

Apparently Michelle Rempel has jumped ship. I don’t know how she was able to remove that video from his tweet.

Nate Pike also had a weird take on Chu and is facing a bit of negative pushback.

The responses to that tweet are why I don't do Twitter. Too many hysterical idiots immediately willing to take a statement to the worst possible conclusion they can think of, irrespective of what its author was actually trying to get across.
