Qualcomm has pulled the plug on Eudora. However they have set a group of their developers to customize Thunderbird to make it more Eudora-like, to help current Eudora user make the transition. link

Personally, I need to use Outlook at work but I use Thunderbird at home. I also have a Gmail address and a Hotmail address (since around '95).

I have way too many email addresses, although since I have used the Hotmail for signing up for things on the 'net for years, it gets flooded with spam (that isn't caught by the Hotmail filters).

Having used hotmail, outlook, thunderbird, yahoo, AOL, and four university e-mail services I can unequivocally say that Gmail is the best by miles. The capacity, search function, grouping of conversations, address recall, lack of ads, spam filter, speed and Gmail chat all set it apart for me.

I started using gmail for my personal email about a year ago and have never thrown out an email (except for repeat jokes or just plain stupid jokes).

After all this time, I accumulated something like 500 emails.
A week ago I sat there for a couple of hours and sorted it all (it was still in my inbox).
Now I have all those emails archived into important categories like friend pics, certain friends that I email often, various friends I met during my year in europe, family emails, pics my ex sent me of my dog...

Its so sweet. Now, whenever I receive an email from a friend that I haven't talked to in awhile, I can just click their name and see all the emails I have tagged from them.

Sounds like plain old folders (ie, hotmail)? Not quite... Because you can give an email multiple tags, an email that I sent my grandmother that included a pic of me in Rome will come up whether I select 'family', 'pics', 'grandma'... You get it.
Same with email from friends in Rome. If they included a pic, I can search that way, or just by their name.

All that search power convinced me that this is the only type of email I'll be needing.

Right now I'm using 16% of my alotted space of 2.8 gigs. Thats just under half a gig of stuff in my email account.
That may sound ridiculous, but its so damn nice. When I was overseas, I'd email myself a few pictures of wherever I had been lately, and therefore have them available to me whenever I decided to send someone a pic.
It was so handy for me because I was constantly using internet cafes or friends' computers.
The other reason why its so great for personal email is because you can access all this stuff whenever you want. You don't need to be at your pc or personal laptop to get to your pics. You can be at a friends house and be yapping about your trip or the pic you took of your kid or your dog and just open your email on their computer and show the pic. So sweet.

Any traveller in his or her right mind would use gmail and nothing else, IMO. And for the chatters, theres a chat feature in there. Not sure how it measures up because I don't use MSN or any of those chat things.

And lets not forget about the office tools in there. Word, Excel, a calender organiser, ummm.... Other stuff I forgot about. But you uni students can actually have an editable essay or thesis or whatever in your documents in your gmail and work on it whenever, wherever.

I built a spreadsheet for my two hostels in Rome for the availability. Whenever I got a new reservation, just hit the closest computer and pop it in. Someone calls and asks if I've got a double private for the weekend of whatever? Call me back in five minutes while I hit the internet cafe... Loves it.

Oh yeah, and the spam filter works sooo much better than hotmail.

One more thing. Grouping of emails into conversations is so brilliant, I don't know how I ever lived without it.

Takes a week or so to get used to, but it was so very, very worth it.

Gmail and hotmail.

It takes a while to get used to the labelling in Gmail instead of the normal use of folders but once you get used to it, it works fantastically.

Hotmail & my ISP's email service (nucleus.ca) I use mainly. I have a third email account with my videogaming clan that I use strictly for videogame related stuff.

I also have 4 shaw accounts, I dont like using them as my main account because I am always afraid someone will hack the ISP and beable to get my actual name and account details from Shaw.

Gmail (or any other free webmail) is a lot more anonymous.
