Eye opening as in management is the reason we suck out the gate every single freaking year, and then miss the playoffs by a #### start equivalent?

####, Calgary during the Iggy years.
Probably should’ve tried turning the picks that became Chucko, Pelech, and Nemisz into real players.
Probably should’ve offered Dion to Boston when they wanted Regehr and we wanted to send them Leopold.
What might have been.

Thornton was just there for the taking... don't remind me that's some super depressing ####. Honestly, Sutter had a few bad moves, but that non-move was his worst. You couldn't beat SJs package? Stuart, Sturm and Primeau? Like really?
Iginla would've touched 60 with JT. They would've ruled the nhl. Ugghh

I have no desire to see this repeat with Eichel.
I am extremely comfortable paying extra to ensure it doesn’t.

Frankly, does Conroy actually know anything about coaching, developing players, etc? Who do I trust more with a roster - him or Sutter?

Stuart. Sturm. Primeau
Probably the equivalent of
Regehr. Kobesew. Random bottom 6 guy
Just seriously bad managing
It was bad enough to lose out on O'Reilly going for a bag of crap. Not getting Eichel when we totally have the assets would be infuriating

Past 4pm now... I guess I am the latest in a long line of failed "Eichel to Calgary" prophets then
Found some unverified rumor of them wanting Monahan and Hanifin and 2 other pieces. If nothing else... good for some BS speculation I guess

I would deal Monahan and Hanifin for Eichel, but thats it. Adding to that is just ridiculous. Who out there is going to give up mid 20s top6 C and top4 D plus other high-end stuff?

That is nothing close to what is reportedly being asked of every other team.

Regardless of qualifications or coaching ability, I don't think giving Sutter carte blanche is a surefire path to success either.
Conroy's been in the league. Heck, he WAS that guy who performed totally differently in a different role (St. Louis #3C vs Calgary #1C). He's a few months removed from TRADING a guy away who performed totally differently in a different role (after coach after coach - including Sutter's brief stint - refused to try it). He's obviously aware of successful organizations who do things the way he described, as someone whose job it is to watch virtually every game everywhere.
Honestly, the fact that there is (yet again) a disconnect on player evaluation between management and coaching philosophies is baffling.

It’s not uncommon for NHL management and coaches to be at odds over the deployment of young players. Management concern themselves with the long-term development of team assets, while coaches just care about winning the next game.
What’s concerning is when coaches get their way completely on the matter. I wasn’t especially pleased with the Sutter hire, and this just validates my concern that giving a coach who has such a short-term perspective the decisive voice in roster decisions is going to be bad for this franchise.

Let’s pretend this is true. That’s too much. Our D is already questionable, we can’t afford to trade one of the few bright spots left on it.

If we threw Hanifin into the Eichel trade, our D would be:
Zadorov - Tanev
Valimaki - Andersson
Kylington - Gudbranson
Stone
I hope I don't have to explain why that would be a bad idea.

I will point out that trading for Eichel is not all about this year.
You can trade for another D who may not be as flashy as Hanifin, but who is perfectly serviceable.
Especially if the acquisition cost of Monahan + Hanifin precludes you from including additional 1sts or 2nds.

(Even though skeptical, assuming true)
If Buffalo will take Valimaki in place of Hanifin, they can have their pick of 2 of our prospects/picks.
Vali + Monahan's salaries and the money still works, or pretty close to it.
We're not in a place to deal from our top 3 defenders.
Obviously there is a gap between Hanifin and Valimaki, but if I'm Brad waiting for the price to fall then that's the sacrifice I ask the Sabres to make in coming to a deal with us.

Yeah, I wouldn't let it stop me if I were BT
If this team is a hanifin injury away from annihilation, well then... we are probably already screwed

The tweet says Monahan and TWO other premium pieces including Hanifin
Its not just Monahan/Hanifin
assuming they know anything which 99.9% they don't

well, at least with an injury, the odds are it doesn't happen
But if we start the season with that D, we aren't going to be anywhere near the playoffs, even with Eichel. That team never gets off the ground
