Seth Jones better than McAvoy... good lord, some people.

$9M+ is the new $7M
I need to wrap my head around that. With that context, McAvoy is worth it especially when recent comparable contracts have been signed by inferior defencemen

More evidence that young stars and potential stars are getting a greater and greater share of the salary cap. Considering the cap has been flat for a couple of years, and will be for a little longer, this obviously means there is less money available for bottom roster players and older veterans.
The GM's can get on top of this the quickest will have a leg up.

Jones angles to the corner for MAF to play it there. It’s a bouncer so he needs to stop it before doing so. And then Jones did… whatever the #### all that was.
Charlie Mcavoy 24 8 years 9.5 million per
Quinn Huges 21 6 years 7.85 million per
Darnell Nurse 27 8 years 9.25 million per
Zach Werenski 24 6 years 9.583 million per
Dougie Hamilton 28 7 years 9 million per
Cake Makar 22 6 years 9 million per
Seth Jones 27 8 years 9.5 million per
Miro Heiskanen 21 8 years 8.45 million per
Alex Pietrangelo 30 7 years 8.8 million per (2020)
Roman Josi 30 8 years 9.059 million per (2019)
Thomas Chabot 23 8 years 8 million per (2019)
Jared Spurgeon 30 7 years 7.575 million per (2019)
Jacob Trouba 25 7 years 8 million per (2019)
Erik Karlsson 29 8 years 11.5 million per (2019)
Drew Doughty 29 8 years 11 million per (2018)
OEL 27 8 years 8.25 million per (2018)
John Carlson 8 years 8 million per (2018)
If this list, I'd say Makar, Werenski, Hughes, Heiskenan, Chabot and maybe Trouba are in the same vintage. And of those Makar is the only one clearly better IMO. Makar got 2 fewer years at a younger age, to play for a really good team. Chabot signed 2 years ago - different environment, I'd say. Werenski might be the closest comparable and he's paid almost exactly the same money, for less term.
I have a feeling this is what a Tkachuk extension looks like
Oh I would love that. Tkachuk locked up for 8 years and $9.5M AAV? Yeah, I'm 100% into that. The moment he signed that contract, I'd hope Treliving would just pick up a red Swingline stapler (the ones that don't bind up as much) and staple the C to Chucky's chest.

Paging Mr. Treliving....Brad, are you there? No. Oh well, he tried.

When you look at play on BOTH ends of the ice, I personally at this point in their careers, would have him ahead of half you picks at first glance
I bolded who I think he's better than right now when you factor in defensive ability, too.

To me, his best comparable on that list is Werenski. And their AAVs are about the same.

And fixed your post.
Nobody on your list from 4-15 is better than him...well maybe Fox but he's too low on your list too.
And yeah when you look at some of the other contracts it really speaks to how overpaid Darnell Nurse is - but you need to value that he gets points on the PP with McDavid and Draisaitl.
