Default iTunes VS Media Player

Just wondering who uses what and why. I'm between the two because i have an ipod and all, but windows uses media player as my default opener. They seem pretty similar now that Media Player has the search function, but iTunes is still easier with sorting by Artist, Album, Genre, etc. Your thoughts?

Winamp with it's media library still kicks the crap out of either of them, and it plays OGG's as well

Chalk up another for winamp.
I use itunes to sync my ipod and thats it... even then I used to use a winamp plugin to do it, but since I got a new laptop I haven't bother downloading it.
The only funtion windows media player has is to play some online streaming videos

I've been using Winamp since it's very first release, oh so many moons ago.

Best player ever.

I'm a big fan of iTunes. It's nice and simple, and I like how it's organized. I also use the iTunes store occasionally.

I don't have an iPod, or a portable MP3 player or anything, so that's not a factor.

I try to avoid Windows Media Player as much as possible. I like both Itunes and Winamp. I tend to use itunes more now mainly because of the ipod.

I switched from Winamp back to Media Player once Winamp started to think it was the most important thing running on my computer and when Media Player realized it wasn't. Now with the upgraded Library in Media Player, no reason to go to iTunes.

Winamp. I used iTunes soley to upload songs to my iPod. It 'sits and collects dust' on my desktop, otherwise.

Everybody says they love winamp and I used to use it...but never really liked it that much. Possibly because I never got into using different skins and stuff...I prefer simplicity.
I've hated windows media player since the last release of it and refuse to use the new one on principle because its such a bloated program and its playlist functionality is (was) terrible.
I've loved iTunes ever since it was released. Its set up is exactly what I expect from a music player, the organization is just how I like it and the search feature is way better than anything else had at the time (although now media player has that as well). I've also recently switched to a mac...I think itunes helped lead me into that transition.

You mentioned that media player is your default - you realize you can change that to any program eh? Winamp or itunes - either way they're both a hundred times better than media player bloatware.

iTunes for me and I don't have an iPod or anything either. Made the switch from Winamp approx 5 months ago and will never go back. Kind of wondering why I didn't do it before...

I use iTunes as my Media Player doesn't produce any sound.

Ya man, i know you can change it. I probably will, i just wasn't sure which one i like and was looking for some feature to sway me.

I used to love winamp too, but I hate having like 7 different programs that do essentially the same thing. real player, quicktime, winamp, media player, itunes, etc etc.... its annoying. Especially since they all love to load on startup!

EDIT: Also, i like having a mini player and stuff, but one thing i really liked was having controls built into my taskbar, or when Winamp had that one unbeleiveably popular skin (MMD3) that could minimize small enough to fit in the window headings while i browsed etc... any similar plug-in/skin for itunes that anyone knows about?

it seems as though most here like winamp but don't say why. I want to know. WHHHHYYYY??!!!! I'm in a period of transition and an open to player suggestions.

I've always used media player until just recently I tried itunes and really like how you could group as many specific bands, years, genres etc. in one playlist just by Ctrl -clicking. The fader thing is kind of cool too. Seems like itunes is more of a resource hog than WMP but I'm not sure.

I'm an iTunes user, I like that it organizes my music in folders as well as in the program itself. I like being able to search by artist or song title on a whim. The search feature also comes in handy from time to time.

I find putting playlists together beyond simple, and then burning them either as audio cd, mp3, or data again very simple.

I find burning from WMP more of a hassel, and not as easy as on iTunes.

As for Winamp I don't like the playlists, and I don't like adding a file to a playlist, double clicking it an having it play. IIRC there a way to add files to a playlist and lose all the files in your playlist. I don't recall what I did but I remember almost throwing a computer monitor out of a window at a formal christmas party, as when I added a song it'd start to play that song (halfway through the song that was currently playing) and then I lost the playlist once.

iTunes never gave me any problems.

Also I don't have an iPod, and my MP3 player is a click and drag storage unit so syncing isn't a factor.
