Well it's 4500 people, so say ~300 in a ward to get to those percentages. I know that if you drive around different parts of the wards there are vastly different signs, because the wards are pretty large and somewhat diverse. If you called my neighbourhood, I have no doubt in my mind that it would come out as Farkas and a conservative councillor. But looking at some other neighbourhoods in my ward I think the results would be entirely different.

Why not Chu, let me see..
1) He's part of the Farkas, Magliocca, funtime grifting keep city hall AcCOUNTaBLE crew.

During a committee meeting discussion on public safety concerns near a supervised consumption site in downtown Calgary, Ward 4 Coun. Sean Chu stated that addiction is a “choice.”
“Addiction. We call it a disease. I get mental issues may be disease. But drug addiction … we heard why people are doing drugs — to get away from something else — but truly, it’s a choice,” he said.

A Calgary city councillor who landed in hot water over a tweet blasting "global warming alarmists" is sticking by his statement, saying he just wants to start a discussion.
Sean Chu, councillor for Ward 4, tweeted Saturday afternoon that recent cold weather and the fact a ship is stuck in ice near Antarctica seem to have quieted climate change "alarmists." He appeared to suggest cold weather is a sign climate change supporters are blowing the problem out of proportion, and says he is glad it got people talking.
"It's very inconclusive, the study," Chu said. "There's no right or wrong in every discussion, just get the discussion going, and I'm glad I can do that."
"I'm no expert or scientist, I just read whatever's out there," he said. "To tell the truth, I'm surprised it's getting so [much] response."

That might be true federally and provincially, but she's been re-elected for six straight terms (two of them were acclaimed) and the votes haven't been particularly close.
I can see people maybe wanting a change but that many?

He's completely uneducated in council. He has no clue what the issues are. He's done a grand total of nothing for our ward. Seriously, I got a flyer, and the one thing he could point to was saving a dog park form annexation to the cemetery, which I believe was in his first term a decade ago. That's it.
Had he shown some support and leadership in the green line for north communities, the project wouldn't have gotten taken over by the south, where it actually had a champion in Shane Keating, despite the north section being identified before the west line as the most needed area for an LRT. Chu has not done one thing for that.
He came to my house last election, and when I told him I didn't appreciate his lack of support for cycle infrastructure, as it is my wife and my chosen method to commute to work, he had nothing to say. When I mentioned we should be able to commute safely, he said that we have a "difference of opinion on that". #### him. Get bent. My family's safety is a "difference of opinion?"
He's a useless clown with no vision and no understanding of issues facing our city or how to make it better. "Cutting taxes" is his only song. While you are at it, you may as well browse the thread that was made for him initially. Do we have a thread for anyone else(other than Farkas?) That should tell you something.
Now your turn. What has he actually done you can point to as positives? Have you ever watched him in council?

Chu constantly accuses administration of lying.
Before he was ejected the first time, his platform was against the Green Line (or whatever it was called at that time) coming to his ward first. As already said, the green line is going to the SE because the SE had a project champion, and the north had a project staller.
I have no doubt in my mind that had Keating been ward 4 councillor, and Chu in ward 12, the green line would be getting built mostly to the north, instead of mostly to the southeast.

He's kind of dim. I've watched a bunch of council meetings and the guy always looks and sounds like he has no idea what he's doing. Literally all the guy does is virtue signal and ask bad questions that either have obvious answers or are virtually unrelated to the issue at hand.
The fact that he's been re-elected basically forms half the basis of my belief in the power of incumbency in local elections.

As part of my former job when I worked for City administration, one of my duties was watching most council meetings and writing briefing notes for my business unit's Director about the goings on at council. As such, I became very familiar with all the councillors.
Simply put, Chu is dumb as a bag of nails. He's completely ignorant about almost every issue facing council. He very frequently asks completely nonsensical questions that require the chair (Mayor Nenshi in general meetings or another councillor in committee meetings) to try to decipher what Chu was trying to ask and re-phrase the question in a way that makes sense. If you don't watch council meetings yourself and only read summaries in the newspaper, it's very important to note that City Hall reporters at the Herald and Sun are far too kind to Sean Chu, never quoting him verbatim (which would make him look like an unintelligible buffoon) but instead rephrasing his comments to convey what he was trying to say instead of what he actually said.
I understand that not everyone supports the progressive inner city agenda of people like Carra, Farrell, and Woolley, but all of those councillors are informed, educated about the issues, articulate, and represent their wards effectively. Of the conservative bloc on Calgary's current council, you can really only say the same about Demong. If you're someone with conservative values, surely you want better representatives on City Council than Chu, Farkas, and Magliocca, right? Are they really the best Calgary's rightwing brain trust can put forward?

Maclean is winning the sign battle not that Urqaurt has ever really campaigned.
There something wrong with the graphs vs the results though. In the graph Unsworth is ahead, in the results from the poll urquart is.

Yes this so much. The few times I've watched council meetings he always appeared completely unprepared for them, asking procedural questions he should have known by now and constantly needed to be told about again by Nenshi (or if someone else was chairing). You can't help but wonder how much of council's time he wasted this way.
They don't all have to be policy wonks like Nenshi, but at least ask the question once and store that knowledge. Don't keep asking the same thing over and over again.

Yup, he’s been councillor for 8 years. He should know how things work in his job. He doesn’t.

I honestly belive that Chu is illiterate. Someone from a former councillor's office shared that theory with me and it explains a lot of his bizarre behaviour in council. He can't read the briefs ahead of time or really follow the agenda.

Sorry, this really irks me. Civic level politics are the most impactful on your life and more people should really be aware of it.
Agreed on everything else people have said about Chu. He's not bright, he does dumb things like take pictures of bike lanes at 11 AM on a Tuesday in January and complain about them being empty but if he'd been there at 8 AM it would have been in use.
It's disingenuous, not helpful, and he's not a builder. Plus his close ties with the UCP and especially Magliocca are troubling to me.

What, did you think people in this thread didn't like him as a person or something?
I don't know how you can say you 'quite like him', and at the same time have literally no idea what he's actually done or accomplished to justify holding such an opinion.

Not really. You can count Brad Field as a distant 4th, I suppose, because the Flames organization is really pushing for him (suggesting that the "large corporate" Calgary is also supporting him). But I doubt he has a hope in hell. he's a complete unknown to most voters.
I would question anyone's rationale of voting for Davison. The guy's a vegetable lasagna. Gondek is such a strong candidate - educated, experienced, positive – what's not to like?
