Looks like the Hawks could be moving Dylan Strome.
I have wondered about the Hawks about a third team who could have Monahan interest and I wonder if Strome and some cap could be shifted to Buffalo. Toughest part is the Hawks spent a ton of futures on Jones and do not have much to give up for Monahan

Jeff Marek show, interview with Gary Lawless, this morning on 960: Jeff Marek said he heard CGY got the closest to meeting BUF's ask for Eichel.

Marek has the Flames as the Eichel landing spot on his “insider prediction” article on SN (Luke Fox was the only other who had Calgary)
Marek making that prediction based on the inside info he has

Why? that would mean they are still the closest...eventually Buffalo has to take the best offer available

Please don't let this be yet another story about how close the Flames were but ultimately missed out.

It may already have been firmly answered by someone who knows, but is there any potential in acquiring Eichel on LTIR and not having to make cap room for him? What are the conditions around that?
Could it be worked out that we trade someone to LTIR Eichel and then reacquire them?
I've been firmly on team Eichel since day 1, but if he's out for 5 months ish minimum, we need some bodies who have a chance at competing for most of the season still. Giving up one of Monahan or Tkachuk and then not having Eichel for most of the season would be nearly insurmountible imo.

It can only end one of two ways now that there have been so many reports “Calgary tried really hard this summer” “Calgary is still a team in the mix”.
Either they get him or we have the story you are dreading.

I will have to see the price before I am upset that the Flames missed out.
For example. With a couple roster players going to BUF and Eichel being out for 6 months I would hate to send a 2022 1st that wasn't top ten protected.

No team has acquired Eichel yet. Isn't this good news - the Flames are deep in the mix and have made the best offer.

What kinda cap space are we needing for those last couple months, when Jacks healthy and returns ? $3m?

You don't bank cap space when you're using LTIR. So if you've been carrying him on LTIR, no matter how few days are left in the season, you need to clear the whole $10 million to activate him.

It is. Especially when you consider that Anaheim reportedly tried to make a hockey deal with Gibson as the main piece for Eichel. I think this puts Calgary in better standing with Buffalo as this probably means that they’ve shown a better understanding of what Buffalo wants. Naturally, they would be the team Buffalo would circle back to.
My random guess is the Flames offered Monahan, Zary, one of Pelletier or Valimaki, and a 1st. If the Ducks are unwilling to move McTavish, Zegras, Drysdale, this is probably the next best offer.

I did see a 3 way trade on HF with Gibson that made a lot of sense as it had the Oilers getting Gibson and dumping Kostkinen on Buffalo along with picks and some of their top prospects. It still had the Ducks giving up a 22 1st which seems crazy for Anaheim.

MacKinnon has COVID and will miss the first two games.
I think Elliotte deleted it as he still may play Saturday. He will definitely not play in their opener tomorrow.

This deal should be done already. It's rare, if ever, that a player of Eichel's caliber to be made available via a trade (surgery and injury aside). We'd only dream of drafting this guy. The flames should be backing up the truck to make this deal happen, Eichel is a marquee player, far better than any Flame player we've seen in a very long time. I hope they make it happen, it would be exciting to watch some Flames hockey again with a legit stud in the lineup.

Depending on the price
Tkachuck, Eichel, Gaudreau
and then still having a really good 2nd line of Mangi, Lindholm, Coleman
Meanwhile the Oilers can't play McDavid and Drai apart because nobody else is good enough
do it, unprotected picks...take a risk for christ sake. Eichel goes #1 in 95% of drafts anyway and the odds of a first pick are so low.
