Yeah, I think it would take a 3-way with the Blues or one of the lower taxed clubs, I think the writing is on the wall for keeping Chucky after next year, if Treliving can turn him into 5 years of Eichel it might just be a huge win.

Buffalo was terrible when he signed as well. Players will still sign in Buffalo.

I think Tkachuk will re-sign as long as the Flames offer more than any other team would. The issue is whether the Flames can and should offer that much. When taxes are taken into account, the Flames might have to offer a little more. The Tkachuks seem to be somewhat loyal as long as they’re paid.
At least age won’t be a problem, so regardless of term, the Flames won’t have to worry about regression in any of his imminent contracts.

I was watching the TSN pre season show tonight and Dreger was mentioning Ottawa wants a top 6 forward and preferably a center. I really think they could be a third team in an Eichel-Flames transaction. Dorian has overpaid for a veteran center before when they shipped Zibenijad+2nd for Derek Brassard. Monahan to Ottawa as part of the deal would make some sense to me

I have a haunting feeling that an Eichel trade would already be complete if Monahan did not have Buffalo or Ottawa on his NTC.

How does that work for a receiving club, who is at the ceiling (us!!) ? Just put him on LTIR, and you’re compliant until he’s healthy again?
What kinda cap space are we needing for those last couple months, when Jacks healthy and returns ? $3m?

A regular season is 186 days. Eichel’s cap hit is $10M. Which means you need $53.76k per day of Eichel, so each month(30 days) of Eichel roughly requires $1.6M of cap space.
EDIT: as Jay Random and EnochRoot pointed out, it's a moot point because the Flames would be sitting right against the cap, and wouldn't be able to bank the cap space while Eichel is on LTIR. That scenario would work only if Eichel was traded after recovery, to a team that had cap space.

Any deal that involves Monahan for Eichel will not happen until the trade deadline at the earliest and likely next off season. Flames will not risk missing the playoffs this year.
I would guess if Eichel is dealt to the Flames early in the season, it will be futures and someone like Vali and/or Dube (maybe Bread - but I think he is key to the flames making the playoffs).
Any salary that needs to be dumped to make space for Eichel in Feb/March would get dumped at the deadline and we should probably send some players down to maintain accumulated cap space.
The more I think about it...the more I am talking myself into Eichel getting traded either in the next 4 days or next off season. Around Christmas Eichel will decide to get one of the two surgeries and risk his contract.

Man that Suzuki contract is insane for a player with that performance thus far. 60pt pace this year and gets 7.875x8

I get what you are saying, but you are getting his 8 prime years and he forgoes the advantageous (for him) earlier UFA.
There is a premium top be paid for that.
Calgary couldn't afford (cap wise) to pay that premium to get Tkachuk to sign a long term contract a few years back. Now they are in a pickle with his contract situation.

Sportsnet.ca has a poll of their writers for predictions for the upcoming season. A couple of them have Calgary as the destination for Jack Eichel. Thought that was pretty interesting. NY and Anaheim are the other possibilities.
Oh Gene Principe’s responses are shameless. Pure company shill and he should be embarrassed. He is clearly afraid of Katz given his responses.

While Eric Francis shows love for both Edmonton and Vancouver. One is a homer shill who is ridiculously bias toward his team and the other tries to stir the pot while squatting over the franchise he covers after eating a box of Ex Lax.

Would think the rangers would be out after signing Zibanejad. They’ll have both lafrenierre and Fox to re-sign within the next couple years as well so I think it would be hard to fit eichel into their cap.
