Is this a joke? He is an 80 point player who has had no help in Buffalo.
3 years ago, he had 82 points in 77 games. Next best on the Sabres was Reinhart with 65 points in 82 games. That is a significant difference.
2 years ago in a short season, he had 78 points in 68 games. Next best on the Sabres was Reinhart with 50 points in 69 games. That is almost a 30 point difference.
Last year, he had 18 points in 21 games playing with an injury. If he had played the entire season, he would have had 48 points. That would have been the highest on the Sabres and 1 behind Gaudreau in Calgary.
Eichel has 355 points in 375 career games while playing for a garbage franchise. If that isn't elite, then I am not sure what is.

He's an elite player, not an elite center. He isn't good defensively and has a neck injury.
Some wanna give up the Flames entire roster for him.
Not saying he sucks but he is being over rated a lot when you consider his injury and past defensively play.

McDavid sucks defensively so is therefore not elite. If he gets hurt he won't be elite either. Though he might be an elite player just not an elite center.

I think in that trade the sabers have to take Backlund or Monahan. I think both players can block the trade.

To me an elite center is someone who is great defensively. I don't think Jack Eichel has reached that yet but obviously is a very good player with the chance to be an elite center.

A top 6 of Eichel Gaudreau Lindholm Tkachuk plus magipagne and Coleman would be a very solid group. If you cannot win games with that top 6 then you have to blow it up and stop tinkering.

I think our problem is we lack high end talent on defence.
We have a solid top 6-8 forwards and solid goaltending but we don’t have a #1 dman who can quarterback the breakout/PP etc.
I still have faith is some of the young dmen but they are still a work in progress.
Adding a top line center would go a long way in making this team a contender though.

You're not getting Eichel and then still have one of Gaudreau Lindholm and Tkachuk.

I am aware.
The point is not that Monahan is better. He isn’t. It’s not that you shouldn’t trade for Eichel. I would roll those dice. The point is you can’t say “well Eichel was hurt” and dismiss all concern and at the same time ignore Monahan’s. I think they were quite similarly playing through a lot - it’s just that Buffalo decided to actively tank (as they do) and they therefore yanked Eichel months earlier.

The HHOF is crowded with centers you would not consider elite it seems.
