I don't know if I'd go that far however I too thought he played a pretty good game. I also watched Monahan as much as a TV screen will allow. He was solid in his own end and was clearly in the game last night. Hannafin was also just fine. Valimaki was still a little invisible.
Gaudreau, Tkachuk and Mangiapane all seem to be in excellent early trim. If those three guys are going then it's reasonable to expect Lindholm, Backlund, Dube and Coleman to feed off it.
FWIW just because the last 2 Captains were long term doesn't mean they always have to be Captains for 8-10 years. I'd be fine with Looch being Captain for 2 seasons. Fitting conclusion to a great career and he's played really well too and it would rub the wound into the Oilers.

I agree with you on Lucic. I look through the line up and he’s the only guy that I think fits the bill personality wise. Most of the others aren’t that good with the media, are too new or are bit players on the team.
Maybe Tkachuk eventually if he decides to stay?

Gudbranson looked like trash.
I'm baffled anyone thought otherwise.
He is too slow to hit and handles the puck like it's a grenade when under no pressure at all.
Its amazing he's been the NHL this long with his utter lack of skill or hockey sense.

In hindsight flames would have looked like thieves if the package for stone did indeed fall around Bennett and valamaki.

Yeah I thought he was terrible maybe his worst game yet. Not sure how anyone saw otherwise.
I wonder what the advanced stats said.

So this worked perfectly!
Thanks again!

Any deal would have had a trade and sign scenario like Vegas.

Wouldn't be shocked if the Flames were watching the waiver wire over the next few days too

Yeah we saw a little more of that Kylington trying to force things and getting in trouble tonight.
Happens though.
I like his camp and I think they're in his ear to quiet his game down. He's a factor now with that kind of camp, but isn't home clear on a roster spot.
They are probably pretty aware that all of Zadorov, Kylington and Valimaki have looked better with Tanev, and all three haven't looked as good without him.
May come down to who looks "less" bad with Gubranson to set the opening six.

Good to see the team get ready for the season. Not sure how I feel about the Monahan hip issue being talked about so much in the interviews. Time to move on to production for Monahan. Watched the Rasmus interview and he is a young man who needs confidence to run the PP.

Believe Elliott Friedman said he would only sign in Vegas, so the deal fell through.

If you watched Gubranson closely I'm not going to say you're wrong. I watched the game from a general perspective and didn't notice him much, which to me is a good thing.
Looked up the PK stats for Gudbranson though ...
4 min
3 shot attempts
1 scoring chance
1 high danger chance
So where are you getting your data?
Looks the Flames had a great PK night and he was the same as three other players in giving up the only high danger scoring chance.

I wish we would stop bringing this tiresome tale back up.
He was never going to re-sign with us so can we stop beating this dead horse?
All reports indicate Calgary and Florida pulled their offers because he wouldn’t discuss re-signing.
He wanted to go to Vegas, it’s time to move on and has been for a while now.
These unnecessary jabs at Bennett and Valimaki are just pointless.

Gudbranson and Kylington really struggled last night. And it wasn't just Gubranson dragging them down either. I was watching Kylington very closely as I was hoping he'd cement a spot tonight and it was almost a nightmare performance.
Kylington C(orsi)F(or) 25% CF% Rel -33.54(!)
Outshot 11-2 at 5v5
Scoring chances 0-7
Started 0% of shifts in the defensive zone
And just watching he was really struggling under the Jets forechecking pressure. Everyone has tough nights but I think it couldn't have come at a worse time for him.
As for Gudbranson, I also thought he struggled a lot too. CF 31.25% outshot 10-2. Unforced giveaways and icings. Passing in guy's feet and some weird positioning. I am completely baffled by Sutter's support for this guy. He has very different standards for some players, at least publicly because the things he criticizes Kylington and Valimaki for are not being executed well by Gudbranson.

He probably knows that Kylington and Valimaki can improve, whereas Gudbranson is performing at his best right now. Just trying to squeeze more out of the players who can improve.

I thought Kylington struggled as well. But overall, he has had a good camp. I thought Gudbranson was mostly unnoticeable, which I think is mostly a good thing. Together, they struggled.
The most important thing about the game though, IMO, was the play of Hanifin-Andersson. To me, this is the most important development of the pre-season, and the most vital piece in the determination of the season (other than goaltending).
If Hanifin-Andersson can be a solid top pairing (like they were last night), that frees up Tanev to play on the 2nd pair. And Tanev, paired with anyone, is a good 2nd pair.
And that in turn allows for one of Valimaki or Kylington to play on the 3rd pair, giving it some mobility and some offense.
In other words, the entire defense comes together nicely, as long as Hanifin-Andersson provide a solid top pairing.

Agreed.
This camp and then this season will ride on the backs of the 3 young defensemen.
A return to what looked to be the course for Andersson and Valimaki, and Kylington establishing himself as a full time NHLer changes the complexion of the team considerably.
So good sign with Andersson, good camp for Kylington and we will see .. not the Valimaki pop I was hoping for.
But Andersson specifically returning to solid NHL defenseman is huge for the team's fortunes.

Kylington has been great, but he allowed his man behind him for breakaways in back to back games here to end the preseason. Might have hurt his chance at cracking the opening lineup as a result.
