Not sure what to make of those d-pairings? They don't seem to be trying either Valimaki or Kylington out on the right side, so looks like its Zadorov, Valimaki and Kylington competing for the two bottom-six LD positions?

Maurice slept well last night knowing Coleman was not gonna be playing....then to hear Sutter say Tkachuk won't be in the lineup.....he must be on a cloud right now.....none of Calgarys dirty hitters in the lineup....oh oh.....Tanev is still playing Paully boy.....cringe......oh oh that vein in your forehead is gonna explode Maurice.
That top 6 looks like the top 6 I would try if the team didn't have Tkachuk anymore...
I really like the look of that defence. Valimaki with Tanev would be awesome for his development. If Sutter sits Zadorov, that would be mighty interesting because the Flames spent so much on Zadorov. I doubt it happens, but I would be in favour.

According to Sutter logic, does this mean Stone has to play better in order for Zadorov to get back in... or does Zadorov have to play better for Stone to get back in?
Although... wasn't Zadorov with Tanev last game? Since Tanev is playing tonight with Valikami, does that mean that it's possible to play so well that you transcend being dragged out of the lineup by your partner, and instead just get to dip your hand back in the hat and pull out a new one?

This is so confusing.
Orrrr....
this is his last chance to see Valimaki and Kylington before the season starts
I'm going to try and focus on the D pairs and Gawdin at 3C.
The rest of the lineup look like fillers that likely won't be in these slots come opening night. I guess they're giving the purple Gatorade line one last hurrah to see if it still clicks if they need it?
Probably being rewarded for being solid pros in the minors.
Froese has been pretty good, but in sort of a standard preseason “let’s not get excited” way. Gawdin as well, to an extent. If you were to match them up, those two are competing, and Ritchie/Kirkland/Duehr are competing. Pitlick being out has opened up a slot for now.

Sutter already said his RD was pretty set and the questions were LD.

In the first period of the last game, he had a number of his "no-look passes to no one", which were all too common last year. Hopefully, these are mostly removed from his game.
