Don't see anything wrong with the article. The Flames are one big ball of "meh." Fortunately they play in a division filled with teams worse tham meh, so meh should be good enough to get to the post season in either the #2 or #3 slot in the division. That's something to be positive about about. Any other division but the Pacific and we might be eyeballing the draft come American Thanksgiving.

It's the time of year when this stuff starts trickling in so here are some more projections. Modelers are higher on the Flames than the books or public, and the books are higher than the public - likely that bet volume is going under but respected/pro money is going over.

Models
Dom (The Athletic) - 92
JFresh/TopDownHockey - 97
Evolving Hockey - 93
HockeyViz - 93
MoneyPuck - 96

Bookies
Pinnacle (the most influential sportsbook in the world and caters to professional sports bettors) - 89.5 @ -216 (opened -108)
Bet365 (recreational) - 91.5 @ -115 (opened -115)
Sports Interaction (recreational) - 91.5 @ -111 (opened -110)
Bodog (recreational) - 92.5 @ -130 (opened -115)

Public
JFresh ran a fan Twitter pool and the Flames outcome was 88 points.

Has the kraken and Oilers 10th and 6th in his model, vegas in the top 4 somewhere (5th was just revealed today as boston)

Who knew the northwest was the best division in hockey

per the OP: Goalies 25th

I am going out on a limb and predicting that Markstrom and Vladar are going to be a whole lot better than 25th

Your Calgary Flames, the most mediocre team there ever was.

Our defense (in my eyes) is going to be the factor that will really determine our fate. Looking at that defense, no one stands out to me as a top pairing guy. We either have a few guys step into that role (hopefully), and we find some success, or we're just rolling with two second pairings and a third pairing, and we absolutely picked apart by good teams.

MoneyPuck has the Flames at 9th for Stanley Cup odds/making the playoffs.

Pretty sure that’s mostly because of the weak division. Second best odds in our division as well, and I tend to agree with them.

At 89.5 I have little hesitation in taking the over. Mind you I always bet on the Flames (when at a sports book) and that really hasn’t been a winning strategy over the years.

But betting against your team is a dick move.

I look at it the opposite, bet against them and if they suck you have a positive to take away from it. If they do really well, it cost you a few bucks.

it is remarkable to me that this core is still largely intact after game 6 vs Dallas in 2020.
that game should have been the last as a Flame for many players.

subtracting the likes of Jankowski and Brodie doesn't move the needle.
