I always found it interesting that the soccer team in Ghent Belgium uses this logo:

Maybe I’m out of touch but I don’t think that image of a native person is bad to use. Logo’s like this one seem like a respectful depiction.
Chief Wahoo in Cleveland? Yeah, I can definitely see the problem there. But I don’t agree that Native American imagery is inherently bad or racist. It just has to be done in a tasteful way. The Blackhawks logo is another example of a tasteful depiction.

I would agree that's why these haven't seen the heat (same with Indian Motorcycles above). Even for Washington, the logo was never really the problem...
That said, they really should all change IMO.

If you are going to cancel all native American (aboriginal) ((first nations) then you logically must cancel all other team logos or names that may have to do with race, ethnicity, nationality or heritage. No Celtics, Yankees, Canadiens, Canucks, highlanders. I don't see the big deal with the Eskimos but i do with the red skins. Its weird to care about something trivial when there are bigger issues in aboriginal communities.

Yeah, is using the Viking image okay? If so, what's the difference?
Some of the native ones, like the Cleveland Indians are awful and obviously need to go. But the one referenced above honours the native chief IMO

Many Indigenous people have expressed their concerns with that name. Who are you (or me) to tell them that Eskimos isn't a big deal?
If there are groups of people that are honestly offended by Celtics, Canadiens, Canucks etc, they would express their concerns and the names would be changed. But I think this is just you grasping at straws.

No, no you don't.
Unless those people "represented" by those names/logos find them offensive and ask for them to be changed.

We didn't genocide the vikings, that's the difference.
However, I believe even ND now downplays the Fightin' Irish name and logo. Most often they just use Irish now with a cloverleaf, so this kind of political correctness isn't limited to cultures that we've systematically eradicated.

Speaking of changing names.
The William Aberhart teams are no longer the Trojans. They are now "Orange". So my son played football against the Orange.
Slightly OT, but odd.

They should have went the other way and changed the name to Magnums.

How about you read the thread before you've repeated all the arguments already made and countered in it.

Did that post look like someone who does or is even willing to do much reading, to you?

No need. Only here in the interest of defending corporate branding apparently.

What's wrong with Trojans?
I say we abolish every team nickname and stick with things like Calgary HC or Edmonton NG's.

Are we really at the point now where any image such as an Indian headdress is offensive? If I was native I’d live to see that on a jersey. Redskins and the Atlanta Braves’ chop are offensive but a headdress. Give me a break.

More Inuit (I hope that name isn’t offensive) liked the Eskimos name than objected to it. A small minority forced change. I’m aware of Inuit who were fans of the team because of the name.
There was an Inuit leader in the north who called on the team (after the Eskimos name was dropped) to donate money to them seemingly permanently. **** that.

I'm just saying, my opinion like everyone else. I don't really care if you or anyone else has hurt feelings. I can read fine, but admittedly haven't read this entire thread...yet alone memorized it
