That said, unless you can substantiate that comment about Aranha its a pretty unfair thing to post imo. People put very little effort into the councilor vote, and that will absolutely swing people. I googled "aranha calgary vaccine" and the only relevant result was a tweet from him promoting a drive-in Moderna clinic/stampede breakfast in July.
A similar search on masking found no relevant results. If you have backup for that please post it. I still might vote Aranha (he seems to have a stronger work/volunteer record than wyness imo) but anti mask/vax would be disqualifying imo.
Edited to add: reading through his Twitter he also re-tweeted an NDP callout of the UCP caucus for doing a bad job with the pandemic in late September, and a AB got "how to get vaccinated" tweet back in April.
|
Sorry it was anti-mask. Just what people have been saying on our community page from door knocking. All I found online was Reddit posts saying he was anti-mask.

latest poll:
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calga...rown-1.6201151
this is going in the right direction, though I'm paranoid that this will cause anti-Farkas complacency and pro-Farkas mobilization. also, Brad Field is shockingly not in 2nd place as recently surveyed by Brad Field.
I'm interpreting this as Davison actually leaching right leaning votes away from Farkas, which is different than an earlier prediction that it would be a Gondek/Davison split.

This is my worry. Trenholm has a ton of signs in the area, I don't want to see him elected here. Is there a valid poll of our ward out there?

One thing interesting about that Janet Brown poll is that Gondek still trails Farkas by 7 points by simple name recognition, yet still leads vote intent. Farkas started with much higher name recognition based on how he does things. This seems to be very good news for Gondek given that the more people that get to know her they seem to like what they're seeing. Farkas' ceiling isn't growing much. But, given that Farkas support leans older, and they more reliably show up to vote, Gondek still has more work to do to solidify a lead.

Not to start a debate here on the topic, but it’s very clear the ICA feels that the City pushes its will and Carra fails to represent the residents.
I’ll be voting Naomi, who seems like the only serious alternate. She sounds competent, and seems to support a higher level of meaningful engagement and concern about residents voices.

Back to Ward 9 talk! Appreciate the perspective from you both. I mostly agree that Carra is pushing the Cities mandate and not listening to the residents, particularly in Inglewood. I'm going to dig into Withers campaign a bit more.
I wanted to attend the debate a Cold Garden last week but the kids didn't want to cooperate.

For those (over-)anxiously awaiting their mail in ballot, we applied for ours on the 29th. My wife's showed up last night, I suspect mine is not far behind.

Just going by lawn signs, Mian seems to be the best bet to counter Trenholm. I'd say her signs are about equal in my community, with a pretty low presence for anyone else.
I voted for Jasmine on Monday.

I think i know who I want to vote for Mayor but I'm clueless on councillors for my ward.
Anyone know anything about ward 8? Who are the favourites? Who is the most sensible candidate?
All I know is that Philip Mitchell is a crazy person. I looked at every candidates website and they all seem so, I don't know, generic. They all seem to focus on health and crime/safety, transit, climate, local business, the economy etc. but almost none of them say anything substantive. It's all platitudes.

Gondek has 40 per cent support among decided and leaning voters. Jeromy Farkas is a close second with 32 per cent support. And Jeff Davison is third with 11 per cent support.
Thirty-three per cent of Calgary voters remain undecided.

I live in Ward 4, so anything is better than Chu...But I scheduled a 15 min chat with DJ Kelly thought his website on Monday night to see what he stood for, and we hopped on a Google Meet for it. Ended up chatting for 30 minutes, and he said enough to get my vote + a small donation.

Most of the endorsements for Ward 8 that I've seen are for Walcott.

Yeah, I think you're about right on that. Farkas was polling around 30% back in the spring and has never grown much beyond that. It definitely seems like he has his locked-in core, but hasn't been able to build on that and will need a favorable vote split. I'd expect that the large 'undecided' contingent fall into two camps: low propensity voters, and potential strategic voters who are waiting to decide between Gondek and their #1 choice.

I am also tending towards Mian, but my wife likes McAnerin based on yesterday’s debate. There are Trenholm signs everywhere here. I hope anybody that agreed to put signs up for him watched yesterday. I am confused by anybody who would vote for him.

Ya, I talked to one of his people awhile ago, we seemed to have similar positions, so I've got a lawn sign coming. Really it's ABC, but it's nice to know the Anyone bit is a good person.

First time I've ever voted in a municipal election. Between stopping Farkas, voting on fluoride and the time change, it seemed like I was due.
