Got a pamphlet in the mailbox from Damery comparing her record to Farkas and Gondek (Davison doesn't get a mention) on a few things. It shows Farkas voting for bike lanes on 42 Ave and for mental health and addiction funding, and Gondek voting against those things? Given the little I know about both candidates, that seems backwards, but is it? Did Farkas actually vote Yes to something?

The City's Mental Health and Addiction Strategy was passed unanimously by Council, so yes, Farkas did support that...but so did Gondek (and every other councillor). Gondek previously opposed the strategy during its early development process because she thought it should belong under provincial (not municipal) jurisdiction, but she supported it on the final vote, the one that really matters.

Damery used Gondek's initial "No" vote on this as an opening attack line at one of last week's forums. we all know that context is for kings, and I suspected it was something like you described, just like how you can say Gondek voted both yes and no on the arena, and people will take the one they want without investigating any further.

Ward 7 resident here. Don't want another Druh, which I get the same vibes from McRae & Wong. Thinking I'll give my vote to Lalonde. What are other Ward 7 folks thinking?

I like both Waite and Lalonde, and I think ultimately I'll probably vote for Waite as I think she's got a little more electability (I've seen more private-property signs up for her than anyone other than McRae/Wong), and more real-world experience (compared to Lalonde's primarily academic background). I'd love to see either of those candidates win though.
I expect it'll be McRae. Personally I can't help being cynical of political-consultants-turned-politicians, but I think she's effectively positioning herself in the Druh lane.
I'd also encourage Ward 6/7 folks to consider Bolger for school trustee. Last time she was runner-up to the slate candidate who screwed the wards over by stepping down mid-term. Bolger has a background as a parent, educator, and instructor of education at the U of C and is adamantly opposed to the new cirriculum.

He’s very popular in his ward. My mother-in-law was astonished when she heard I wasn’t a fan. I was the first person she’d ever met out of her friends, neighbours, and family who doesn’t love the guy. My mom and her friends and neighbours are the same.
They love him because he responds promptly to their requests and acts as an advocate on their behalf. That sort of responsive ground game is what a lot of people at the municipal level of politics want from a representative.

Still deciding between the two of them.
Would be nice to see a poll to see where things are leaning, as that could push my vote one way or another.
|
I wish there was a poll too. I'm fine with either of those two for councillor. I'm worried about Aryan Sadat though. He got a lot of votes last time and has a lot of posters.

Exactly. I’d like to know where Sadat is so that I can vote against him if need be.

Just voted! No line at City Hall...almost in and out...if it weren't for so many things to vote on.
Went with Gondek and McRae (Ward 7)
Yes to Flouride.
Voted to get rid of time change.
Voted No on that ridiculous equalization question.
Almost voted for THUNDER FOR SENATE, but went with Karina Pillay.

Don't you get 3 senator votes?
I was planning on going with Thunders, Kinney, and Pillay.
Plus wearing my Jett Thunders access badge to the polling station

Can I ask how you decided between Heather McRae and Erin Waite?
I'm also leaning towards McRae but find there's not a huge difference to them. The small differences for me are that:
a) iI feels like McRae understands "the system" a bit better (which makes sense, she worked for Druh for awhile, and her husband is a political strategist).
b) Erin loves to describe Calgary as "mid-sized" as in "Calgary can be a top tier mid-sized city" which on one hand feels realistic, but on the other makes me question whether she is thinking too small -- would she have voted for the library, the peace bridge, or the green line or are those big city projects?
c) McRae might be more along the Druh lines of "I have a vision" rather than "tell me what you want" which can be good or bad depending on your perspective.
Would love to hear what you think on the above and how you decided.

OK am I losing my mind? I could have sworn there was a post in here with a list of the candidates who were part of the various conservative slates, but I can't find it. Not sure if I'm searching for the wrong terms. Can anyone help me out?

Yes she did impress me in the candidate’s forum.
Although I won’t be voting for her this time around I am hopeful that this isn’t the last we hear of her voice in Calgary.
