Thats the one I look at as well. I think everyone went into that thinking we needed a minimum 2 wins.

Oh well.... lets hope for a big offseason and then full year at Rogers Center and I think the Jays are the team to beat in the AL.

Or, you could instead just put the blame where it CLEARLY BELONGS!

Technically true but I think you know what Jiri meant. Jays are not a big TV draw in the US.

Feel so bad for those guys. Great year under very difficult circumstances. I’m proud of Blue Jays, you gave us very entertaining baseball this year.

There are a lot of elite elements of this Jays team. Obviously the bats are elite, even more so with a healthy Springer in the line up, the starting pitchers are as good as any in the AL, but the bullpen depth was often exposed. By the end of the year they could lock down leads with Mayza, Cimber, Richards, Romano. But that didn’t get solidified until maybe august. There just was too much Dolis, Chatwood, Kay, Beasley, Edwards Jr, Castro etc during the season. Really if the Jays have Springer for a whole season and get the bullpen solidified for maybe 3 more weeks this team is comfortably in the playoffs. Too bad. A really very very good team. Only the 7th time the Jays have won 90 or more games. A lot to be happy about, future is very promising, also feels like a missed opportunity.

Incredible season. 4 different home ball parks. They were nomads all year. They would have won the WC game and then who knopws against the Rays. I am sad about how today ended, but damn that was a fun season.

Time to get to work on Ray and Semien contracts!

In its current form, this is arguably the best team in baseball. Take away the bullpen's early season struggles, Spinger's injuries, and Ryu's struggles, and this team likely would have cracked 105 wins, maybe even 110.

The least attractive team in baseball iirc. Nobody except Canada likes watching them.

Truth. And that's the 20th straight miss for them. At least the Jays will be contenders for years to come so hopefully this is a learning experience for them going forward. The Mariners aren't a very good ball club with questionable team management. They might not get this close for years to come still.

lol I cannot believe how any things went wrong.

Red Sox getting swept by the Yankees only to turn around and sweep the Nats.

Going into that stretch, that was literally the worst possible outcome for the Jays, then it happens, and then the Jays miss by ONE game to BOTH teams.

I can't wrap my head around it. I can't even.

I'm so bummed because it doesn't seem like we'll be able to bring back both Ray and Semien next season, which is a pretty big issue considering how important both were this season.

I think if you can keep one or the other you keep Semien, no?

I keep Ray over Semien

They should also try very hard to keep Matz

The Jays score tons of runs, and while losing Semien will hurt, they will still score tons of runs.

They need that rotation deep and effective, that way they don't have to overburden the bullpen like they did for the first 3 months of this season.

I was all in favour of bringing back Semien, but this team only has so many spots. I believe a couple weeks ago he said he sees himself as a SS, and that's firmly with young Bichette. Given his age, and the need for pitching, how can you bring him back with a limited budget? It's tough, because I love his quiet confidence. This team also will have to spend considerable money on the bullpen.

I'm still pretty bummed and stunned it ended this way. Annoying because Boston is a lesser team, and their fans are the most bandwagoners in the league. I hate the Canadian ones.

I keep Semien Over Ray. I think value over term Semien will deliver more. Ray, IMO, when he loses a couple ticks off his fastball his effectiveness is reduced substantially. Plus I have a huge amount of respect for Semiens work ethic and leadership.
