Avs

He came in and looked extremely poised.

He has lost his confidence but once he gets some swagger back I think he will get back on track and shoot up the depth charts.

Hopefully to start the year both he and Kylington are in the top 6.

Reading CP you would think Kylington scored a double hatty last game or something. He is playing pretty good but a decent preseason game against an expansion team doesn't cement him in the top four.

I am even willing to give Gudbranson and Zadorov more than one or two preseason games
I think it's more about us as fans hoping a young guy takes a big step forward. I am definitely cheering for a young guy to make the team. That's a part of camp I find exciting, hoping a prospect takes a job away from a vet. In a way I'm cheering for a young guy to succeed, instead of a vet to fail. I'm also cheering for a fair opportunity to be in the lineup, if a prospect outperforms a vet in preseason.

I think everyone realizes that Kylington is not a top 4 d-men yet. People are just excited by the idea that you might get two good pairings on defense by having Tanev on one, and Hanifin on the other.

Gudbranson and Zadorov definitely get the benefit of the doubt(from me). However, Gudbranson just looked so slow out there. I'm not sure how that would improve even with better positioning.

I hope Kylington wins the Norris...I just think people treat him with rose colored glasses.

Gudbranson played one preseason game I think? I don't think he is great or anything but probably wasn't giving 110% in preseason game 1 of 8. Playing 3rd pair minutes in cherry picked games might be good.

I actually think Zadorov is a really good defender, his charts say as much. People have already written him off because he isn't Gio. Gio wasn't Gio at 26 either.

Regarding the performances so far, I'm OK with no one peaking in the pre-season.

If the Flames win against a bunch of no names = plan the parade

If the Flames primarily veteran line up loses to no name Canuck team = still getting used to Sutter style hockey.

Is Francis still with the team? I thought the fact he wasn't in the group sent down earlier this week, suggested that he would get a chance to play in this game.

I dunno, seems better than:

Flames lose a preseason game: OH MY GOD THIS TEAM IS SO BAD THEY LOSE IN THE PRESEASON

Flames win a game in the preseason: OH MY GOD THIS TEAM IS SO BAD THEY WON A MEANINGLESS GAME IN THE PRESEASON

The board isn’t your therapist. Go slough some negativity on somebody you’re paying.

How about "the preseason is entirely, 100% about process, and the results are therefore 100% meaningless, the only thing to be optimistic or pessimistic about is the performance of individual players, their chemistry with one another or their apparent ability to play the system that's going to be in place this year"?

That's literally the only thing that matters here. Arguably the best scenario for most pre-season games in terms of usefulness is to ice a lineup that's outmatched and see how they do playing against NHL-caliber players so you have some sense of what they might be like when the games count... in other words, the best case scenario involves probably losing every game.

I'm just happy to have hockey again. Anybody with me?

Having no expectations for the first time since probably 2014 had made watching less strenuous. I'm able to tune out to tend to other things and not be concerned. And I just get excited when we make a good play and do good things because my former expectations for this group were utterly destroyed by last season. I literally do not know what to expect from this team at this point so I'll probably savor all the good moments that come just that much more.

I want them to name Tkachuk captain and just lay into the dirty/goon reputation for a season. They aren't going to outscore their opponents.

Not specific to this post, but I'm seeing a lot of cheap or free tickets to preseason games being given away and I'm wondering if other people (like me) are finding themselves more hesitant to go watch a game than they expected... I'm finding it's a combination of the general desire to not want to have to deal with the covid risk and the sense that it's just going to be a cluster#### to get into / out of the arena with the restrictions in place.

I actually thought before games started that I'd be kind of pumped to get back into the building but it turns out in practice I'm much more leery than I thought I would be.
