Leave it to Gardner to nail it down.
What an incredible way to lose. 5 hits 5 homeruns.
The Yanks have not looked that great this series. Just taking advantage of the breaks given to them. And Judge probably single handedly won the series for them. The Jays just couldn't get him out.

The lesser teams like the Jays and Rays get more revenue through the Yanks and Sox visiting and getting more gate revenue. All dollars and cents.

A month ago, we can put up 4 easily in this situation.
The last few weeks? Not a chance.

Valera, you simply cannot watch that go by. You need to swing. Give yourself a chance.

That's twice he's done that now. He did it against the Rays too.

But that could apply to every other team in the north east as well
I am sure the Pirates would switch places with the Jays in a heartbeat
Also, the Jays are not a small market club. In fact, being a Canadian city, they probably benefit less from having NYY and BOS roll into town than just about any team

I don't get putting Valera in in the first place, but that's just my opinion

Could be, but I'm pretty sure I read years ago that there were considerations but the Jays wanted it the way it was. I'm sure we can find those stats, and it probably backs up that theory that they get more gate revenue when the Yanks or Sox are in town. And I didn't mean the Jays as small market - just less of a history compared to the original teams.

Well, now they better hope the Sox and Mariners lose a bit.

no doubt they liked the idea 30 years ago
but I bet they would take a do-over now

Yeah, the Yankees 6 runs on 5 home runs seems lucky I guess? But you're not winning many games when you're only putting up 2 runs

Well that sucked.
Interesting that both Cy Young candidates struggled this series and lost their games.
Boston choking makes for some interest this weekend but cant help think that was it.
#### Gardner and #### the Yankees.

I have a theory that the Jays' standard deviation on runs scored is wide. Their run differential seems to have come in blowout games. When they have confidence they hit hard. When they don't, there are almost no runs scored and that's shown the past couple weeks. They'll get there over time and as they mature, but this is truly the year everything but the bullpen seems to have taken significant leaps enough to be championship contenders. It will really hurt seeing their bats not being able to pick it up at the end.

So we need Jays to win all 3 vs Orioles and M's and Sox to lose at least 1?
Beating the O's now won't be an easy task after they took 2 of 3 from Sox

Jays playoff odds actually went up 4% to 31% thanks to the Red Sox losing.

That’s not a surprise. That was the Sox easiest game and our hardest. It’s still definitely in play but they now have to sweep the Orioles.
As for your point fleury it’s absolutely true. David Schoenfeld had an article up the other day that went over this but it’s hardly new. Jays are front runners this year. It’s my biggest issue with the managing here that they can’t seem to adapt later on and usually just keep swinging for the fences. Maybe just a bad luck year but something needs to change next year.
