I actually think if you're the sort of person who could justify owning a tux because you go to enough stuff that calls for formal attire, you might be better off buying a black suit instead. I can see the argument for that. But that applies to almost no one.
But then, you might as well just buy a tux and not go halfway.

I have actually moved away from suits a lot for work and nearly always wear sport jackets with wool pants. Even for a lawyer in large a corporate firm there are very few workplace situations where you absolutely have to be wearing a suit, I find.
Oh yeah, I never wear a formal suit - except for weddings and funerals.

I've been getting all my suit pants made out with single reverse pleats, side fasteners, and suspender buttons, and I just love it way more than wearing a belt.

Sure. Black running shoes, black hoodies, black T-shirts, black ball caps. Those are all fine.

Black sport coats, black dress shirts, black ties, black oxfords, are virtually useless for everyday wear - unless it's 2002 and you're trying to get in to The Palace.

Love to see a picture of the side fasteners out of curiosity. Oh wait, I looked it up on the internet. Wonderful. Love side fasteners.

First day back into the office, I am wearing black suit, black cordovan bluchers, and a white dress shirt because I need some formality to balance out the number of times I wore a backwards hat and Xbox 360 pajama pants on meetings this year.

"Black cordovan bluchers" is an oxymoron. Cordovan is a colour. Did you mean shell? If so what make?

Are you robbing a diamond retailer with Steve Buscemi?

The leather is either called cordovan or shell cordovan, which means leather from a horse's rump.

Cordovan is also a color.

I don't believe use of the term shell by itself it correct though.

No one calls it just cordovan, because that's confusing - there are obviously calf cordovan shoes. It's generally just referred to as shell for short. I know where it's from, I have my own pairs, I was asking what the label says on yours (i.e. either the maker or the brand).

Yes, shell cordovan, I was being lazy. Alden for Brooks Brothers, these exact ones. I've owned them for 9 years now, still hold a fantastic shine. I bought them at the same time as these. They're my first pairs of shoes that I actually spent good money on so they wouldn't end up in the trash in 9 months.

I'm starting small, maybe sneaking an extra cookie from CHARCUT downstairs during lunch.

9 years is nothing to Alden regardless of leather, certainly nothing to shell. Your colour 8 derbys are better though... I have been going back and forth about whether to get some colour 8 990s. I have zero need for them and yet...

Well, you see, I have these...

... And these...

... And also these...

So yeah, I'm in decent shape on colour 8 shell. And yet I still kinda just want another pair. Maybe I should sell one of my pairs of black shell to minimize my hypocrisy here.

I have no room to criticize my wife on how many pairs of shoes she owns, my roster is pretty stacked too.

All very beautiful footwear, but those Alden cap toe oxfords in particular... my God.

No office, no shows has meant most of my shoes haven’t seen sunlight in 18 months. Thanks for reminding me they still exist.

I've been waiting almost 20 months for my Color 8 Indy's. I'm a little bitter at Alden right now.

What jacket do you guys wear to the office during the winter?

I have a pretty stylish (IMO) peacoat, but goddam it does not keep me warm. Searched some parkas from brands like Canada Goose (too much money anyway, so no), Eddie Bauer, etc but I'm not sure if they go. I wear lots of chino pants to work.
