I've watched a ton of baseball in my life. Way more than I'd like to admit. And I didn't think I'd ever be invested in watching a Mariners vs A's game like I am now...

Nice win tonight from the Jays, but watching this error in the Oakland game is just once in a lifetime screwup on that double play ball. The universe is conspiring.

Are you kidding me?!?! A tailor made double play ball gets bobbled. And then a .180 hitter in Kelenic hammers a double. The Mariners are more than a team of destiny at this point...Jays cant get any luck...
Edit. Forgot about the Error to start the inning. So the Mariners have 2 runs because of no hits and shear luck. Bunch of losers keep winning.

If the Jays win out the best the Mariners can do is tie us, if they also win out. I’m more concerned about the Sox right now

The Mariners are ahead of us. With an easier schedule because they play one less game. They are essentially the Red Sox. We should be concerned about both.... An Athletics win tonight changes that though...
Edit. And the just took the lead again. So yes, we need to be concerned.

They aren’t ahead of us. As of this moment we are tied. If they win tonight they go 0.5 games up but we have the extra game, so as I said - if we win out, they can only tie us.

I believe in the Jays.
|
It’s mind boggling to look at the run differentials of the Jays and Mariners and then see they are tied in the standings.

And yet their 4-2 record against the Jays says differently. So, yes they could finish tied. But a tie break against them would have a Seattle advantage. Same as the Red Sox. So I don't know why you are arguing one way or the other. Both are teams that can un-seed the Jays pretty quickly. Both are the enemy.

Because the head to head record doesn’t matter. That isn’t a tiebreaker.
They play a tiebreaker game if it comes to it.
That’s why I’m arguing because I am saying factual things and you are disputing them.

Basically, we control our own fate against the Mariners (win out, they can only tie) but against the Sox we control nothing and require help. If we win out and the Sox win out, they finish ahead. Hence why they are a bigger problem (as the standings are currently)

The head to head determines who gets home field in the event of a tie breaker. So it does give the advantage to the Mariners. Which is a factual thing...
I see what you're saying about the Sox. But Jays need to be concerned about the Mariners too. Who are ahead in win % again.

Ray can likely sew up the Cy Young tonight and hopefully does just that.

Lets not forget the Yankees aren't safe either.
If they Jays win tonight the Yankees are only 1 up with a series vs the best team in the AL, while the Jays have a series with the worst team in the AL.
Even though the Rays won't go all out they're still better then the Orioles.

Yes and I believe the Rays are starting their young phenom Shane Baz in one of those games to line him up for playoffs. Their other starters are strong too, so a Yankees sweep will not be easy.

The great thing is that, even if the team doesn't make the playoffs, this is as close to a playoff type environment as you can get without actually being in the playoffs. It can only be good for team development.
Just keep winning.

The Jays could win out the season, end up with 92 wins, finish 4th in the division and not even get into a wild card game. If that happens they will have played 92 of their 162 games against teams with a record above .500 and will have been 49-43 in those games.
Meanwhile the White Sox will have only played 56 games against teams above .500 and will have a record of 27-29 in those games and will cruise to roughly a 14 game first place finish in their division and walk right into an ALDS.
And don't even get me started on the Braves and their free pass.
And does anyone see any of the AL East teams going anywhere anytime soon? Tampa might have the best team in MLB and they also have a top 3 farm system. The Yankees? The Red Sox? Those teams are almost always better than average at least if not contenders, and even if they have an off year are able to snap right back into contention. Hell, even Baltimore has what some rank as the #1 farm system in MLB now lol.

Yeah I wouldn't be worried about the Rays mailing it in for that series. They likely see it as a chance to eliminate the Yankees which likely has them excited.
Hopefully Robbie Ray puts an exclamation point on why he should win the Cy Young today. If not for the AL Wild Card this last weekend would be pretty meaningless.
