No, it doesn't. Your point would stand if there was anything translatable from any NHL team's pre-season record into their regular season performance ever. But there is not. Great teams sometimes look awful in the pre-season. Sometimes they look fine. Terrible teams sometimes look like they will never lose a game in the preseason; sometimes they look awful.

There is virtually no way to make any sort of meaningful assessment about either the Flames or the Oilers fortunes this season after watching this game. None.

After day one it's more fun to be a Kraken fan. The sheer amount of excitement from the fans is just so fun compared to the negativity surrounding the flames.

Okay well this is dumb. Totally different circumstances around a team playing its first game ever vs a team in the league 41 years playing pre-season game one.

Of course it's more fun to be a Kraken fan today.

Except I didn't use Tampa's poor preseason record to suggest that the Flames looking awful didn't matter - other people did that.

I haven't said anything about how the Flames have played tonight, good or bad.

The Oiler group looks like they've played together all summer, very connected and playing with pace. The Flames group look like they're strangers coming in cold to their first scrimmage together.

The Good: Vladar, Werner, Mackey

Acceptable: Zadorov, Lewis, Lucic, Richardson, Pelletier Popisil

Bad: Phillips, Gawdin, Ritchie, Ruzicka, (the fact that Pitlick was hurt).

Horrible: Gudbranson.

I dont care how Backlund, Dube, Andersson or Valimaki looked. Or that d man whose name starts with W.

Kind of expected with some of the changes and being a Sutter team they'd limit chances and be hard to play against, not the exact opposite.
Oh well, preseason....
