You are what you do and how you show up consistently.
If playing this game is your job, and you're a professional who loves to play and wants to have success, why save showing up just for games you deem important?
How are you going to be ready to win game one if you phoned in the pre-season leading up to it?
If your goal is to win, why not work on winning habits from day one.
Saving that for game 20, or whatever is what non-winning players and groups do.
^ This is why I'm irked with even early performances like this from key players.

Sutter should also be taking a lot of blame for the Gudbreson signing. It was Sutter who called gudbreson when free agency started and said he was interested in him. Would have hoped Tre would have said not a chance but I’m not sure how much power Sutter has .

The Flames dressed an AARP line. You can’t possibly expect those kinds of vets on guaranteed one way contracts to play with any kind of energy in game 1 of preseason. It’s just never going to happen. Bigger question is whether they are the kind of players to bring energy over a long regular season.

Like Tampa who went 2-5 last preseason?
Obviously not game 20 but you are gearing up to go 100% in for game one.

Well, no one is doing that. But I think it is a good bet that a bunch of these players are definitely saving it for Game #1.

I don't know. Dube and Valimaki were in the dog house for lack of effort and structure last season. Mackey is also fighting for a spot... they have not done themselves and favors tonight

I say game 20 because routinely, it takes roughly that long for the Flames to get their legs under them and start to play competitive hockey.
