That isn't true. Sutter is signed for 3 years, lets say the Flames perform well in those 3 years and Sutter decides he wants to retire... does Tre get fired in this scenario? The coach is irrelevant, his fate is tied to the team not the coach. Not sure why you think otherwise.

Just catching up on the video now.

"I believe in these players"

...but not enough to commit to them going forward? Neither Tkachuk nor Gaudreau have deals done beyond this season, and it's widely known he's been trying to trade Monahan for over a year. Sure, he "believes in these players".

Honestly I would have preferred Treliving gone after last season but what do you expect him to say at the start of training camp press conference?

No GM is going to start the season by saying he doesn't like the players assembled but couldn't get what he wanted for them. That would be the most foolish thing imaginable. Show me one NHL GM who has stated that to start a season.

Oh yeah, of course he isn't going to say anything else. His comments seem to stand in opposition of actual circumstances though, and as a fan I wish the organization wasn't in the position that it's in.

The three year deal started last season so unless there's an extension Darryl only has this and next season left.

I'd be more than willing to bet if the team starts poorly, Treliving gets the axe and Darryl stays put for the duration of his contract.

So sure, he has to dance.

Exactly. What else is he supposed to say? We have terrible players, a terrible team, and no chance at winning without significant changes. He's also trying to negotiate new contracts with his two biggest start forwards and keep any value in his players.

Maybe he should have taken that approach at the end of last season as not to invite the obvious questions at the start of this one.

I imagine that its also a little disheartening - when you place bets on players that turned out wrong and you spend a lot of time trying to get yourself out of the messes based on those bets - to have reporters consistently remind you of that.

Doesn't sound like a confident approach to the season, and why would there be. Everyone including the GM is just hoping it goes okay this season. It feels like the Flames are close to the end of this era, unless Sutter pulls off some magic with this group.

The good news I feel is that this season is we will find out soon enough the direction of this team. If Sutter can push them to be a hard playing team that learns to commit to playing the right way every night then great.

We have been clamouring for a half arsed decent coach for this core for years and now they have one of the best.

If they still wilt under pressure and in the playoffs then Treliving will be gonezo and we can watch the rebuild.

This offseason has felt like purgatory with the lack of a major trade, but I'm really hoping this team has it in them and just needed a push to learn to play the right way and that Darryl will bring that. It looked like they bought in at the end of last season when goaltending cratered them a bit, so I'm honestly excited to see that continue this year hopefully. If not, sell sell sell.

So is Parsons the only one that isn't vaccinated?

It might be the results vs. pressure from ownership. I suspect Treliving sounds a little different if the team had advanced through a couple of rounds last year or coming off some major deals. Same with Sutter.

I honestly don’t know what some of you expect out of these press conferences. Contracts are a two way street.

Tkachuk is an RFA after this season. Still Flames property. Sure, Gaudreau doesn’t have an extension yet but neither does Forsberg, Barkov, Hertl, Zibanejad, Reilly, Klingberg, Burskovsky, etc. does that mean their GM’s don’t believe in them?

What did you expect him to say?

I don't recall from the game what type of injury Kinnvall might have incurred - anybody have any insight into what may have happened to him?

He can say whatever he likes. I’m not expecting him to have answers for his inability to build a better team - because if he had those answers, he likely wouldn’t be a bad manager.

Just pointing out that his actions/inaction/and his words shared don’t really add up.

Just listened to a replay of the presser. He sounds so po'd and touchy. Have to imagine he knows his job might not continue....and i have to give him credit for not trading the farm for short term fixes or signing insane contracts that he won't have to deal with in a couple years.

“Lower body injury” is all I’ve heard.
