I shake my head at people who can't see the pure talent we have here in him, he does things with the puck that only a handful of players can do and controls the offensive play 90% of the time he's on the ice. No disrespect to Lindholm or Tkachuk ... but he is the flames offense
This team is Arizona north without him.

I think he is going to have a great year with the extra room he is going to have out there. Almost every line combo that hits the ice will have someone who can chat with a player takin liberties....or just do the same to their star players.

Pretty much. The "neither side will make comments" is made when both parties know they are going into the season without a deal and are trying to mitigate the distraction. I'm sure they will talk during the season but Gaudreau now holds all the cards now as the GM has put himself in a corner.

Shrewd move by Gaudreau or his agent. Ups the pressure on Treliving without actually complaining about anything, and right after the Wild give a big contract out, too.
Look at the comments here. Now talking about $9M, whereas all summer people talked about something starting with 7.

At this point I think Tre's best play is to actually wait 10 ish games. He's already lost all pre season advantage to the negotiations, might as well see how Johnny does in the first bit on the ice and let that do some of the negotiating.

I think he's going to FA. If I were him at this point I totally would. Why not see what's out there? If you really want to sign with the Flames it doesn't stop you doing so, but you might get a great offer from a better team in a much better city.

This news also probably shows that there is nothing imminent in terms of news on his re-signing. Hopefully this gets resolved before the season starts.

The term scares me for this contract 8 years would take him to 36.

How many points does Gaudreau have in the playoffs? Or impact. Comparison to Point is not a good one

I think Point eclipsed JG's career playoff point total in one stanley cup run alone.

Styleo chance its this little unless it's for 8 years.
My guess is the JG ask is 11M over 6 years or longer.

Not how I see it.
A guy that is very process driven is well aware of pressure points and timing when managing assets.
Every team has players walk. Every team locks up players.
So he passed the 5 team deadline, are you saying he was unaware of it? Wasn't sure what it meant? Didn't know that going by it meant less leverage?
I find all of those tough to see.
They let it go by for a reason, I think we can agree on that.
He either thinks a contract is coming, or decided himself or was told that it's worth the risk vs the team being poor this year.
So you think Coleman called Gaudreau, Gaudreau said "I don't know buddy" or "none of your business" or "I'm testing the market" and he signed anyway?

For Johnny his longevity will likely be tied to his diet and fitness level as those need to be taken very seriously when a player gets up in age. Gio always being the fittest Flame in camp surely played a role in his longevity. Maybe he's already bought into that lifestyle but I wish NHL contracts could have incentives like NFL ones where players receive bonuses for passing physicals.
I feel the Flames need to have at least one player in the organization with an elite sikllset and I don't think Tkachuk is long for the Flames so I would be okay with a deal that takes Johnny to 35. Given some of the contracts that have been handed out over the last five years, most teams are going to be working with rosters that have one more more players in their 30's that are massively overpaid so I don't think this will put the Flames at a major disadvantage.

It’s a gamble. If he sustains a career ending injury this season he will have thrown $50-60MM goodbye.
If he doesn’t for whatever reason perform to an elite level, he also will have risked a crazy amount.
It’s a tough decision actually for him depending on what’s on the table.

Yeah that's a pretty good summary and one that I would agree with. Johnny is not a guy I would be committing big bucks too, but nor is Tkachuk for other reasons.
And I don't think they will move both.
As much as fans are worried about this I'm also excited and keenly interested to see how things play out with both players over the next 12 months.
