The final list of candidates after today's withdrawals: https://www.calgary.ca/election/info...andidates.html
I live in Ward 9. We have... - 27 candidates for Mayor
- 10 candidates for Councillor
- 5 candidates for CBE Trustee
In 30 years of voting, I don't think I've ever voted in an election with that many candidates for those offices.

Looking like I’m going with Ward (Ward 11) / Gondek.

I see Larry Heather is running again.
Edit: Just found out Zac Hartley is running too. Went to junior high with him. Looking at his platform it's safe to say he won't be getting my vote.

Official site says Krahn withdrew from Ward 11. Ward’s Facebook page says he’s still in. https://www.calgary.ca/election/info...ype=councillor

Very much a two horse race consolidating

Davison needs to figure out what he's doing here. Is he going to compete with Farkas for the "lower taxes" vote, or try to land somewhere in the middle? Name recognition alone isn't going to cut it because the other two are probably just as known, if not (much) more.
I also think it's unlikely he'll drop out between now and election day, especially since Sutherland decided to step down to try and support him (still not sure about the reasoning behind that one).

From the article:
Quote:
"There are 27 candidates running to replace Naheed Nenshi as mayor, but it’s looking more and more like a two-horse race between incumbent councillors, both finishing their first term in office. Since the start of the campaign, Jeromy Farkas has been the front-runner; he still is but his margin is shrinking. Jyoti Gondek has made significant gains in the past few weeks and is closing in on Farkas, and with still 28% of voters undecided, the current five-point gap doesn’t mean much."
A ThinkHQ Public Affairs Inc. survey conducted in July suggested 44 per cent of voters were undecided, 23 per cent of voters would vote for Farkas, 10 per cent would vote for Gondek and seven per cent would vote for Davison.
Henry says time may prove to be on Farkas' side given his current lead and the fact advance polls open Oct. 4. "He also has a committed voter base which typically are more 'dependable' in terms of turning out."
There's also significant reason for optimism within Gondek's camp, according to Henry.
"Gondek has the benefit of momentum, more wind in her sails, and greater growth potential in her vote share. Kent Hehr's decision to withdraw from the race likely most directly benefits Councillor Gondek's prospects."

I think Gondek and Davidson are going to need to change their messaging to Calgarians that the Mayor is only one vote on Council; Farkas is going to need to actually build relationships with the majority of other Councillors to make any changes, something he's been notoriously bad at (including skewing facts, context, and lying about City matters in the past).

About a week ago, I noticed a bunch of Chandler signs pop up overnight on my street in Mahogany. Like at least a dozen on my small street. There's only a couple of Evan Spencer signs so Chandler having 3-4x more signs was surprising. Most of them were placed alongside existing Kmiec signs and near property lines.
Most, save a few are gone. That guy is greasy.

We caught the guy on video doing it a few weeks ago for Chandler. That alone should be enough to sway everyone away from the candidate.

Shame that the city is more strict with mail-in ballots than the federal and provincial elections. I wasn't able to vote in the last municipal election for the same reason, and this one will be tricky as well but I'll definitely try my best to make it

I was just looking into this...
Quote:
If you are unable to vote on Election Day, you can request a special (mail-in) ballot. You may be unable to vote at your designated Advance Vote or Election Day voting station because:
- you have a disability or illness; or
- you are working, vacationing or studying away from your place of residence; or
- you are an election worker, a candidate, campaign worker or scrutineer.
|
Now, I don't want to go to a voting station because of covid. Would that qualify for #1? Or do you just say "eh, close enough" and go with it?

I would probably be ok with Davison, but seeing those numbers, I will likely back Gondek.
I actually think having Farkas ahead at this point is ok. It should incentive those that think he sucks to consolidate their votes. Gondek seems like the choice.

We have to accept the high possibility of Calgarians simmering in the three J's of hell.
- Justin Trudeau federal leader.
- Jason Kenny provincial leader.
- Jeromy Farkas city mayor.
