Don't know about that.

Mr. Pospisil with 3 tallies in 2.

Does make me pretty excited for when we see Coronato eventually join us for rookie camp though. A pure shooter will be fun to watch.

One empty net goal, but still going 2 for 2 and having some sand paper in his game? Sutter is gonna like that

Pospisil seems to have all the attributes for an effective 4th liner. Maybe even a third liner if everything goes well. Not too bad for a fourth round pick! He'll be a fan favourite if he makes the show.

Pospisil is very interesting.

He had a slow start in his first year in the USHL, but really broke out in the second half of that year.

Then similar in the AHL where his first year was slow, but then broke out in his second year.

Honestly he would learn so much from Lucic in terms of being a big man with skill and knowing when to pick your spots for a fight. He fights too much to this point of his career so far to the point where it’s hurt him a bit.

Oh he was a 4th round pick?

That means top line at his peak.

I'm a big Posipil fan and I think he is getting some games with the big club this year. His skillset just screams NHLer, even if he is not going to put up a lot of points.

Hopefully they treat the next effective 4th liner better than they treated Hathaway.

Losing Hathaway to free agency was one of the biggest blunders Treliving has made so far IMO. He had a really effective player but didn't wanna over pay by a few 100k but has no problems signing PTOs who look like crap in pre season.

4th liners matter.

Not sure I agree.

I like Hathaway and wish he stayed, but he makes literally double what a fourth liner should make on a four year deal.

You can't allocate your money to the fourth line like that. Even if they are effective they don't get the ice time to show it.

But since Hathaway left, how much money have they wasted on 4th liners in that time?

Wouldn't it have made more sense just to pay Hathaway?

at that time, the Flames had to sign Tkachuk and Rittich. The two of them cost a combined ~$8M more than their previous contract. Saving cap space for one of your best players and your 1B goalie had to be the priority over a 4th liner who was UFA and chose to go home

I understand you can't fully evaluate players in the first couple rookie games, but Broberg sure seemed to get beat 1 on 1 more than he should have.

Also the rumour was that Hathaway didn't have a ton of interest in returning, he wanted to back to the East coast.

The problem wasn't that they didn't re-sign Hathaway.

It's that they didn't have another guy like Hathaway ready to bring up from the minors to fill that role.

For me Pelletier was best Flame yesterday. And he always do something in every shift. Good at puck battle, some smart plays when depend or attack.

You're fourth line is always going to cost a minimum of 3 x League Minimum. That won't change.

So they haven't wasted money bringing guys in on PTOs at league minimum.

Derek Ryan played some fourth line with a big ticket, and Lucic may be getting pushed that direction this year. Ryan likely not overpaid so much because he could move up the roster and was a key penalty killer. Lucic obviously overpaid, but has played 3rd line to date.

But making a call to move on from fourth line players that want double with term is never a bad idea ... and I like Hathaway as I said.

hard to say, as he only touched the puck 3 times in the final two periods.

There was a 5 minute stretch in the 1st where the Oilers had 3 PPs and 2 two-man advantages. During that stretch, they had several chances and scored a goal. Wolf made a couple nice saves.

Overall, he was solid, but had a VERY quiet night

Which is what we saw last year at the WJCs as well.

When he is making a play, he looks every bit the stud: big, talented, beautiful skater.

The rest of the time, it looks like his controller is disconnected.
