Sure it was meaningless however even the Oiler announcers noticed that "Pospisil" plays a more physical game than they expected. I thought the guy was the best player on either side. Pospisil is big, he's not slow and is a very Sutter type player. Lots of camp to go through but he's worth keeping an eye on as a future bottom 6 forward.

Pospisil was a noticeable player. But I take it with a grain of salt, the competition was weak, and he is older and stronger than most.
That said, there is lots of room for that type of player at the NHL level (Hathaway and Lomberg come to mind).

I think the monday game will show us a sample that is fairer. It should be the less sloppy of the two games.

How did Wolf look? I assume it wasn’t a great showing based on the results, unless the rest of the team was that bad.

Obviously I'd have a bias, but didn't think Broberg looked very good for what I'm assuming is the only top ten pick in the game.

Didn't see the whole game though

I tend to watch Broberg as much as any of the Oiler prospects, because of the hype and the pedigree. And I can see the reasons for the hype, the tools are all there - he has size, speed, offensive flair, and can make plays.

But I also think his game lacks crispness, it lacks focus. He seems to wonder around, uncertain what to do with himself. Like he's just waiting for the next opportunity to make a play. He doesn't know how to play defense, between those plays.

Or Caufield. Can you imagine him on McDavid's wing?
Or Knight so they would have a long-term solution in net.

Both the Bouchard and Broberg's picks were NOT good ones. I didn't think they were at the time and they aren't now.

I think the any criticism (or more accurately, any disappointment) in Wolf last night is unfair. Watch Markstrom in camp - he will look somewhere between pedestrian and downright awful. It takes some reps for goalies to find their game (as it does basically every prospect). I actually think Wolf did fantastic all things considering - in fact, I thought both goalies were really strong.

As for the rest of the prospects, I am more interested in some of their skills and their determination, rather than how well or poor they did. They only had one practice leading up to this - you expect them (both teams) to look rusty and somewhat crappy. I wanted to see a GAF metre for these prospects trying to prove themselves, and wanted to see how the respond with physical play, and to see what they are trying to do out there.

Pospisil, Zary, Pelletier (what a puck hound he continues to be), Duehr, and a few others stood out to me. Zavgorodniy's shot is pretty nice, as is his puck skills. He also didn't look as small as I remember somehow. Whynot was noticeable to me. Francis came as advertised.

Will be interesting if the Flames sign any of the walk-ons.

Was he the one that tried to lay a big hit on one of our guys and got absolutely demolished?

He played really well, I thought. He made a handful of excellent saves, his mobility was high end, and his glove was good.

The first two goals were the result of quick puck movement and a Flames pk that simply wasn't very effective. Neither can be placed on him. 3rd goal was a deflection off his own D that went right under the cross bar. 4th I didn't think he played in a way that suits his size. It was a good shot from a rebound off the boards behind the net, so a tough shot to save, but that space was open and a lot of NHL players can make those shots consistently. That's why there has been some concern, because he is at a size disadvantage and I don't think that one goes in on Markstrom or Vladar.

He didn't get beat on any shots he definitely should have though. 3 of 4 were pucks moving side to side or back to front prior to the shot and the other was a fluke bounce.

Basically this means Samorukov tried to hit Duehr with his face.

Late to the party, but.....

Fun game to watch. Pospisil, as mentioned, stood out the most to me in a positive way. Thought he was a difference maker from start to finish. Best player on the ice, IMO.

Zary had some positives too, but at times I thought he tried to do toomuch on his own, leading to a couple of notable turnovers.

Also thought Zav, Patterson, and Kinnval all had moments of really strong play, and of course Duer seemed very good. He gets surprise of the night from me.

Thought Wolf was very average. Pelletier was fine but wasn't as impactful as I thought he might be, and the defense overall was not good.

Looking forward to seeing how things go tomorrow night. So great to have hockey back!

Be interesting to see who starts tomorrow, if Wolf gets another game or Parsons slots in... maybe even Chechelev. The selfish part of of me kind of wants to see Chechelev. Like a mystery box or something.

Wolf is the only one of those three participating in the prospects camp.

It will either be him or one (or both) of the WHL invites. I suspect it will be Wolf again.
