Over the last two seasons he is .6pt/gm and +26. He's not a tweener on most teams.
To put in perspective Dube is .4pt/gm and a -1. Given the effect of linermates they are probably the same player right now if not Yamamoto ahead.

I think in a way it's Yamamoto betting on himself. He is eligible for arbitration in a year, so if he keeps producing at that rate he will be paid more than Dube in the next 2 years. I think both deals have merit. It also is the same caphit as Puljujarvi. I guess whoever works out better will get the better contract next summer. It also lets the Oilers gauge who is the better fit in their top 6.

Dube plays with Lucic in a checking role and Yam plays with Drai and even McDavid at times. Pretty hard to compare offensive stats. I think Yam needs to be a top six player where Dube is more versatile.
Contract is okay, 1 year has the potential to price him out the door or overpay considering who he will play with. I would rather do 3x2 or something if I were them.

He was fortunate enough to be on the 3rd wheel on a hot line for a while, where he had 20 points in 17 games.
Other than that, he has 32 points in 88 games (.36 PPG). Playing mostly with Draisaitl.
He is 5'8", 153 lbs.
Dube is a much more complete player. And if you switched them and put Dube with Drasaitl for the last 2 seasons, and upped his ice-time to almost 17 minutes a game, and put Yamamoto on the Flames 3rd line, and dropped his ice-time to 13 minutes, what do you think their production would look like?

Didn't Dube play with Tkachuk and Lindholm to start the year? Then he was tried with Mangiapane and Monahan. Dube actually had a QoC of 90% and QoT of 83%, which means he was mostly playing with and against top players, though at a reduced TOI.

Yamamoto definitely got to play with and against better players with a QoT of 96%, and QoC of 96%. However, it's not like Dube was playing with scrubs the whole year.

Do you always look at things in a vacuum? One played with the scoring leader and the other didn't.
Do the Flames have or do anything worthwhile in your book, or is the whole organization crap?

Who’s getting tired of Matthew Tkachuk?
In comments about Brady’s contract he reveals the family negotiating strategy. Which is no big secret. They are all holdouts.

edit: I see this is also discussed in the Flames captain thread.

Kinda my point...besides Dube has a better contract anyway because of term.
158 pound Yam either plays top six or in the AHL. How many teams is he top six? That is why I said tweener not everything is about offence. There are plenty of guys in the minors with more offensive skill than regular NHLers who play different roles.
Where would Yam play in the Flames lineup?

I dunno, I don't think these comments by Matthew are such a big deal. You don't think these types of comments and conversations are had by other players if not all of them?
They're looking out for themselves, they're talented and skilled enough to make the show so why shouldn't they get paid or ask for as much as they want. They just have to show it on the ice which they've done pretty well so far.

I’m a Tkachuk fan but it’s pretty classless of him to comment and another player’s contract negotiations. It doesn’t matter if it is a family member, a friend or whatever.
I really think we need to trade him sooner rather than later. It’s pretty much a given at their point that nothing but an extreme overpayment will keep him in Calgary.

Add this to the list of reasons not to play in Canada
Guy is a villian for saying his brother deserves big money because he is a great player. If they play in Cali and Florida nobody bats an eye.
Also he was asked about it, it's not like he went running to the reporters.

I don't think Yam makes the Flames opening day roster...where would you put him?
Guy is on the team with the best centers and the worst wingers...pretty perfect spot

Yamamoto sucks by virtue of the law of E=NG but let’s not pretend like this team isn’t less than a year removed from having scrubs like Ritchie, Rinaldo, Simon, and Nordstrom regularly making the lineup. There are worse players than Yamamoto on this roster for sure.

Melnyk can just point to Matthew's contract, QO, and his performance last year as a reason not to give in to this holdout BS. I am VERY tired of Matthew Tkachuk.I hope we can get a good package for him.

Pro athletes in every other major sport have it way tougher than anyone playing in Calgary when it comes to media and fan attention. I mean it's not even close.
This inferiority complex stuff just isn't warranted. GM's and other leaders of Canadian teams have been unnecessarily impatient and don't need excuses IMO.

You didn't answer the question
IMO he needs to be top six...sure he is more talented than Ritchie but who do you want on your 4th line?
He wouldn't make some teams opening night roster, that is why I said on another team he is a tweener.

How is this relevant at all? Who cares about other sports? It's a fact many NHLers don't want to play in Canada. Same handful of teams are on every no trade.
