I can see Keith imprinting the attitude that he and his family poops gold. The brothers are really good kids. I can see the air of entitlement all being traced back to papa.

Not that there's anything wrong with building strong negotiating chops - that's how you get good things in life. But objectively MT also can't claim to be playing up to the caliber his dad probably tells him he is in recent times.

He still has his hurdles to getting to that level imo. That being not getting shook by other teams trying to throw him off ala Muzzin & Doughty. Needs to thicken his hide this year to earn that albatross contract.

Nah. Not the way the Flames roll. We’ll walk him to free agency. Same with Gaudreau. Because if everything falls into place, this is a roster that just might make the playoffs. Maybe even win a round. Can’t jeopardize that by worrying about scenarios two years down the road.

The Flames don't have to qualify him. He is guaranteed to get paid at least $7.65M for that year. That's not too bad, but a lot of it depends on how well he performs. Therefore, a number in the $8M+ range might be something he would find appealing on a longer term.

• Club electing for Arbitration in the first window can be made in lieu of a Qualifying Offer [CBA 12.3(a)(ii)]
