Played Fraserview in Vancouver today.
Shot 44 on the front 9 and was at 70 after 14 holes before losing daylight.

I haven't broke 90 before and this may have been the round had we had more time.

Was 5/7 fairways hit on the front 9 and 4 GIRs, definitely felt like my best round to date.

We had our annual night golf tourney last night. We had 46 people show up for 9 holes of glowing golf balls flying through the air. It was a 2 player scramble event.

Valley Ridge today.

Hate that course, but it's in really nice shape. Some of the best greens I've putted on this year.

Curious why you hate it as I enjoy the course, I find they usually have great greens as well.

It has some of the dumbest, penal green complexes I have had the misfortune of playing.

well my last two rounds have not been great on the scorecard, they have been great on the time clock as i walked sun catcher twice in a little over three hours.

was kind of nice yesterday morning at 7.30 as i found it warm enough for shorts and a popover and it was foggy and calm.

First three holes were great yesterday and i then reverted to my true self. Was frustrating on 18, to whiff two drives into the tall grass and i forced myself to take a drop around the forward tees rather than risk whiffing a third drive.

i will invest in lessons in 2022

I had a five-off-the-tee last Wednesday after pumping two out of bounds.

Even better, I had a 4 putt double on #16 at Valley.

Lessons help.

Need some advice from the folks on here.

I'm currently in the market for a new (to me, preferably pre-owned) driver and pair of fairway woods.

My current set is as follows:
- TaylorMade R7 CGB Max Irons
-- 3 iron through 9 iron, plus PW and SW
-- This later release specifically.
- Vintage blade-style Par-Rite putter that will likely get replaced soon enough
- Campbell Golf 1, 3, and 5 woods that are old enough to have cheap private car insurance.
-- I couldn't even find a picture of them on the internet.

I'm not a great golfer but I can hit the damn thing and sometimes it'll go straight and usually more than 100 yards from where I hit it from, club permitting. As you can see with my iron set, I like forgiving clubs, so I'm looking at the same thing for my new ones.

My thinking at present is a 10.5 degree (minimum) driver, and a 4 wood with a 5 hybrid. The 4 wood is a less common club but from my reading it looks like it's easier to hit and doesn't lose too much in the way of distance from the 3 wood. The 5 hybrid would be replacing the 5 wood to get a good balance between distance and accuracy. I've never played with hybrid clubs before, but considering that my set already includes long irons, I'm not sure what to do without creating unnecessary overlap in my loadout.

Any suggestions on how to fill out the remaining 4 spots in the bag?

I would go to golftraders. They carry used sets and you can try them out with the simulator thing.

Make sure you're looking at the shaft stiffness on the clubs, not just lofts.
I made the mistake of buying a bunch of new stuff last year and then learning more about my swing speed and what I actually should have.

Regarding a 4wood instead of a 3wood, I find the clubhead size of a 3wood feels better at address.
I almost never use my 5wood. In theory it's easier to hit than my 3wood, but I like the confidence of the clubhead size when I line up.

Your 5hybrid doesn't replace your 5wood, it replaces your 5 iron. Some people like hitting hybrids and some prefer irons.
If you like hybrids, you may want to replace your 3i & 4i first. Generally you would replace your longest irons with hyrbids, so skipping the 3i & 4i and getting a 5h is a bit odd.
Carrying a 5h and 5i is overlapping.

For the age of his iron set they wouldn't overlap at all, especially if he buys a more modern hybrid. That set was released before TM started to juice the lofts.

My clubs are right handed, irons are standard flex graphite shafts. My old irons were stiff steel shafts, and the current woods are also graphite but no idea what the flex is.

Should I even bother with fairway woods and hybrids right now and just start with a driver to see where I feel the gaps are in my set? I’m not opposed to using my long irons, was just in the position to have a more complete set.

I was going to offer up some of my clubs if you were a lefty.

Go to Golf Traders and hit a bunch of clubs. Get a driver that you like and a 4 or 5 wood. They new ones are adjustable.

That's probably good enough for now.

Lots of good deals as we near end of season too. You'll see a lot of 2nd hand options hit FB marketplace and the like.

Went to Ted and Dave's to get a putter fitting done last week.

Process was great. They were using some sort of measuring device on the top of the putter. I tried a number of putters, and finally settled on a Taylormade Spider EX. They made an adjustment to the lie angle and off I went.

The process felt like the Wand selection process in Harry Potter. Some putters were way too hot off the face, some were too dull, some just felt wrong.

First 3 rounds with the putter have been great. I have a better feel for the stroke now, and I'm more comfortable with it.

not often that i ask for this but thoughts and prayers for me as i am golfing at glen eagles on friday. this will be my fist time there.

i fully expect to be calling my employers family assistance program from the parking lot.

i am projecting a score of around 126 with 13 lost balls.

I lose around 4-6 balls in a normal round and Glen Eagles doesn’t punish me much more than that. My scores aren’t much different than other courses too. I suck equally regardless of where I golf it seems.

Enjoy the round, you’ll be fine.

I don’t think that Glen Eagles is that punishing compared to other courses. I guess it depends on where you play though.

I will say a prayer for the houses lining the course.
