I have to say as someone that has had COVID in the past and has been fully vaccinated I am fully comfortable being in the Saddledome with everyone else being vaccinated as well but if i'm required to wear a mask for 3 hours straight on top of that i'd much rather just watch the game at home.
|
When CSEC made their original announcement, it was only to require proof of vaccination for entry, not mandatory masks.
The Province later re-imposed the requirement to wear masks in indoor public places, and the City re-implemented the face covering bylaw a day later. My understanding is that the Saddledome would be considered an indoor public place.

The only logical reason that the there would be face covering mandated in a group of vaccinated people is that the vaccine does not work.
This just feeds the vaccine shy people as an excuse to not get vaccinated.
The Vaccines works, overwhelming case study of its success.

I disagree. There are some markets (Toronto, Montreal) where tickets have traditionally been hard to come by that will still be (announced) sell-outs. There are also some American markets where there are enough people who don't seem to be concerned about the pandemic that will do just fine as well.
However, there are other places where demand has been more elastic over the years (Vancouver, Ottawa, Calgary, various American markets). Add to that anxiety over COVID and/or anger over vaccine/mask requirements and there may be some attendance problems this year. Or not. Either way, it will be interesting to see.

I'm really interested to hear how this is monetizing anything.

I have been going to my daughter's high school volleyball games, where they have a mask mandate regardless of vaccination status. It's irritating wearing a mask while cheering etc.
That would impact my decision to pay to attend any pro sporting event.

I'm triple vaxxed (got AZ then Pfizer, then another Pfizer because some US places don't recognize the mix of AZ and Pfizer). I was all prepared to buy a pack of tickets but didn't only because I didn't like seats that were left. I haven't really shiued away from events - I was out a bit at Stampede, I'd go to a movie. I don't mind wearing a mask that much. If doctors and nurses can do it for 10 hours, I can manage two.
That said, I am still leery of some events - too many people don't wear masks where they are supposed to or wear them half-assed. Ride a C train and watch. And now I have people telling me they lie about their vax status (lots of places including some schools operate largely on the honour system with some random checking).

Yeah I'm not sure I'll be able to handle that more than a handful of nights.

i think that the attendance at NHL hockey games for canadian teams will serve as an interesting test/commentary with respect to where we are at collectively with respect to our feelings about COVID.
From what I can see sports fans in the US seem to have been very willing to head to games thus far. CFL seems to be doing mostly as expected.

I'm fully vaxxed and would feel comfortable going to the dome, but as some others have already said its the wearing a mask for 3 hours I'm not big on. I dont even like wearing it at the grocery store, I do wear it, but I don't like it at all. Seems petty, but that's gonna limit my time in the Dome for the foreseeable future.
Even watching my sons hockey this week wearing a mask, its lame. Tough to talk to people, tough to cheer. I don't like masks.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Watching games on TV where they have similar rules in place, most people just hold the glass for 3 hours and seemingly never pull the mask back up. Seems like it would be hard to really mandate without the honor system or the people around you reminding you

My assumption is that masks are not required if you're eating or drinking (for obvious reasons). Plus, sitting down at a game is much different than walking around at the store or trying to do things that require any additional physical exertion. To each their own though.

So are you worried that your vaccine will not work? Or are you worried about spreading the COVID you might be carrying to some unvaccinated person?

With Delta especially, I can still both get COVID and transmit it, though at a reduced probability. Masks help. I am far less worried about serious effects because I'm vaccinated. But if some unvaxxed person gets it, including a kid, they will more likely to be be seriously affected and they might also take up an ICU bed thtat someone else needs.
But overall, I'm polite and I want to make others as comfortable as possible in their surroundings. People who insists on going maskless when they are not allowed to just to make some stupid point, or are too lazy to do so, are, among other things, rude.

This. It isn't rocket science.

I only have to get to December before my daughter can get vaccinated. Then she has to wait, get her second then wait a bit longer. So the season will be March before that happens, so likely I won't get to any.
Until that I don't feel like going out and having a good time with 20,000 fellow fans only to come home and risk giving it to her, through no fault of her own.
I can wait.

So far there have been 12 deaths of Canadian Children aged 0-19 attributed to Covid-19

These stats only show 2 outcomes
dead or alive
My respiratory doctor did 8 tracheostomy's due to covid on children under 12 this summer...this is a favorable outcome in your stats.
I have been playing hockey and going out as have the kids, I just don't like this calling people afraid and dumb garbage.
Ironically many of the tin foil hatters afraid of a needle are the ones saying not to live in fear.

I have no issue going.
Will comply with mask mandate and vaccine proof but will go without a mask once rules are lifted.
