I see stuff like this coupled with the lack of any noise out of the Flames camp on moving him as a strong signal that they are either close or have the basics ironed out.

Francis going off again about Gaudreau not re-signing in Calgary on 960 this morning. Guarantees Gaudreau will be moved at the deadline if the Flames are out of it (inferring no extension coming between now and then)
I want it to be announced today just to spite Francis.

I absolutely believe Johnny wants to re-sign a long-term deal with the flames. I think the hold up could be that he wants market value (which is fair) and is not going to sign at a discount. Treliving has played hardball with his star players in the past and he might be trying to do that now.
I expect it to get done but I think the number will be slightly higher than anyone is hoping for. I think it ends up being something around $9 million per year for eight years with a limited NTC.
