Brady and Matt play the same position (as well as Stutzle), unless Matt has to play off wing (and they have Batherson and Brown on RW already). But moreover, the Sens are thin down the middle. Plus the Sens are kind of cheap and Matt costs a lot.

Also CP I think, they seem to be a fan favorite around here which I find ironic because they are one of the few teams with less success than the Flames

Bingo....you need to install siderails, and Holy crap handles to increase the capacity your arse can carry.
Heaven forbid if you ever decided to switch from positivity to hellbent criticism, condemnation and complaining like a huge % of posters who r never happy and get their corn flaked peed in everyday.

With good goaltending and defense the Flames could be a competitive team, especially in a weak division. I'm not going to pretend they have a good shot, but they won't be as miserable as they were last year.

We say this every summer, but they always are. Props for the optimism, I guess.

Even though I have HATED this offseason and see it right now fairly close to the worst case scenario I had in mind. It could have been worse but the change I hoped for has not yet come.
With that said I thought this team was underachieving last year more than that being who they actually were. I have a lot of reason for optimism that this current roster can push for the playoffs. Multiple important players playing for contracts, a full year with Sutter and a normal schedule with fans in the building. If Markstrom can be a top goalie and this team is committed to the Sutter style I think they can be Islanders west and make the playoffs with the ability to win a round or two.

Yeah, a deal between the Flames and Sens for a Tkachuk makes zero sense for either team from a roster perspective.

I always get confused about the complaints about lack of change. There are 4 players here from the start of the 17-18 season.
Monahan, Backlund, Gaudreau, Tkachuk. Considerable change has happened to this roster over the last 4 seasons.
Plus the same people that really want change don't usually seem to want to move Gaudreau or Tkachuk.
So really IMO it all comes down to frustration around not moving Monahan or Backlund.
Backlund is probably tough to move due to his age/contract.
Monahan would be selling low at this point due to his production / injuries.
I really hope they can trade for Eichel with Monahan as part of the package, but I'm not sure just moving him for picks without a plan to get another top 6 forward would really be the best move. And I'm not going to fault them for not trading for Eichel, because if there was a reasonable ask out there he would have been moved to some team already. Buffalo is clearly asking for too much based on how this has gone.

We say this? I havent seen you say anything that isn't negative.
The truth is there is room in the pacific for a team to make a move. Don't get me wrong if the Flames were in the central I would say that they were going to get hosed.
But outside of Vegas the Flames competition is
Edmonton ( poor goaltending and defense)
Vancouver ( in consistent in every aspect)
Seattle ( who the hell knows what they'll be like)
LAK,SJS, Anaheim ( all in the middle of a rebuild).
That is not an excuse to make no moves, but it is a glamour of hope that the Flames will be more competitive than last year.

This is enjoyable for me, I never said this is not enjoyable for me, i love being a fan, the dome, the beer, the games, the chats but that doesn't meant i need to have false optimism, have hope only to be let down year after year. I would love to be wrong, but haven't yet.

I am not shouting my love from a roof top but the Covid crap, even the bubble, and the fact I feel like Ward was a terrible head coach have me pretty much throwing out the last season and a half.
To me that was a double whammy that was hard to overcome and they ran out of runway for DS to turn it around, not to mention being limited by protocols to be able to bring in different manpower to compliment the coach even if they wanted too.
I am not planning cup parades but I think this season will actually be ok and I am fine with some of you not being on board with that.

But the 30 year thing, I've seen others hung up on that. I just don't see it as a single entity. Different players, different coaches, different GMs, different financial climate.

You should try it.
Optimism and hope cost nothing. The best part in sports is, if they aren't met, you just hit reset and hope the same for next season.
Literally none of this matters. This is a game played by other people that we all watch for fun. You decide how much fun you have, how much losses and bad seasons matter, and how much you enjoy good seasons and wins. You can absolutely enjoy every win and every achievement to the absolute fullest without being a hopeless pesismist who is crushed by every lost. They don't have to balance.
I'm not the one on the ice. I'm not giving anything but some time and money, and I give those things for the fun of it, not the result, because it's enjoyable. I've taken to going into every season stoked about the team because really, why not?
