Crosby has wrist surgery, out at least 6 weeks
Quote:
The team announced Wednesday that the two-time Hart Trophy winner will be out at least six weeks after undergoing wrist surgery.
General manager Ron Hextall said Crosby had been dealing with the injury for years and that the team exhausted all minimally invasive options before deciding surgery was the best course of action.
"We all, including Sid, wish we had known this a month or two months ago," Hextall said. "That would be great, but we are where we are."

Crosby only won two Hart trophies? That surprises me.

Crosby is broken and will never be the same. The Penguins better dump him for anything they can get before the rest of the league catches on! /snark

Time flies as the Sid the kid is 34 years old. With his all around game he should be an effective player into his late 30's providing his body holds up.

Crosby is washed up, at this point in his career he's being carried by Teddy Blugers.

With all the injuries Sid has sustained, it’s amazing people are so bullish on Eichel.

I think Sid’s accomplishments, despite numerous injuries including concussions, are precisely why people are willing to take a chance on Eichel.

Eichel is worth taking a chance on, absolutely. Its the gross overpayments suggested by some coupled with the perhaps too optimistic timeline for his recovery that has people like me shaking their heads.

This player is excellent at every single facet of the game. Skating, passing, shooting, leadership, physicality, defending, faceoffs, etc.
It is so crazy that the Pens got Lemieux/Jagr then Crosby/Malkin. Like come on.

If only the Flames knew how to do it...
He'd make a nice captain for the Flames

TBF, their most obvious tank job was the Lemieux draft and there was no lottery then. So they managed to guarantee the pick for sure.
Since the lottery began in its various incarnations in 1995, the actual last place team has won about a third of the time, if my math is right. But the rules keep changing, so tanking has been more or less beneficial depending on those rules.

I was trying to reference the two times they grabbed 1st OA. Lemieux (tank) and Crosby (GD lottery). Didn't mean to infer Lemieux or that draft was lottery related

Mario was the best example of surefire tanking though.
Crosby was pretty lucky for the Pens. That was after the lockout and all teams were in it with 1-3 balls, and the Pens had the same odds (6.3%) as 3 other teams. Calgary had 2 balls in the machine like 9 other teams, for a 4.2% chance. Calgary would have had 3 balls like Pittsburgh but for their 04 PO run.

They also got Fleury 1OA and Malkin 2OA. They definitely have the luck with the draws.

I seem to remember some story about the coach of the penguins being forced by management to sit certain players (I think the staring goalie for one thing) on the final game of the season to ensure they finished last and got Lemieux. There was a bit of controversy I believe because the coach did not want to play to lose. I could be wrong about that.
