That's a tough loss but enjoyed the match. Good effort!

If only Treliving put as much effort into his job as Bianca does.

He does. It's just that Bianca has much more god given talent for her occupation.

That was tough to watch yesterday for Bianca. Just can't seem to stay healthy I don't know what it is. She still has the championship fighting spirit and mentality but her body keeps letting her down.

Yeah..one would hope fitness/durability were not an issue at 21 years. Hard to believe it's just bad luck, unfortunately.

Not every person or athlete is built the same. Unfortunately a lot of athletes are gifted with talent but not the body to sustain it. It's still too early to count her out but we've seen this before with young injury prone players and most of them have issues playing a long, consistent career.

I'm hoping it was just cramping and nothing long term. The match was one of the longest women's matches at over 3hrs and there are few players on the WTA or ATP tour in better shape than Sakkari.

So it's agreed, whoever wins between Felix and Alcaraz is who were all cheering for the rest of the way

I don't question her toughness. In her matches that went longer than two sets, she had issues with nausea, her eyes and then at the end her one leg would give out between points. So to win consistently at this level, it's something her and her team will have to figure out. She has the natural talent for it obviously.

Such a contrast between Bianca and her opponent last night.

I see I was right, 0 aces in the third. You could just tell she was fading fast at the end of set 2.

The body language wasn't good after that episode where she did the splits reaching for the ball. It's been a while since she's gone deep into a tournament so maybe conditioning isn't where she would want it.

I'm sure that's true. I think as someone who had success as a 19 year old, her body would probably just do whatever she asked. As soon as you start having injuries, conditioning is so much harder to maintain.

Odd talking about Indian Wells at this point in the schedule, but it’s a nice treat with the final Slam in the books.

Are you aware they rescheduled 2021 Indian Wells for early October?

So she’s saying she plans to play Chicago Fall classic which runs September 27 to October 3, and then Indian Wells which starts October 6th.

The 2022 Indian Wells tournament is still scheduled for March.

Edit: Oh reread it, and yes you did realize that. But I’ll leave this up in case anyone is unaware and confused.

"affected me a little bit"

She crumpled to the ground on several occasions. I'd say it affected her more than a little bit.

Watching the highlight it looks like a cramp or maybe a mild strain. She should be okay. I mean most of her shots were looking really good in that match and she was serving great, it was really just a conditioning and strength issue, which is fixable. Against a lot of opponents that's over in 2 sets pretty comfortably but Sakkari was just the best version of herself and the shape she's in is obviously an advantage.

It's very interesting comparing the Brooksby match to the Bianca match that followed. Bianca and Novak are obviously the more talented players in those matches, but when Sakkari manages to fight through a tough tiebreak after losing multiple set points and fighting off a bunch of break chances throughout the set, she knows it only gets easier going forward. When Brooksby plays a 20 minute service game and finally manages to grind out a break, Djokovic is just...

The mountain that still lies in front of you after exerting all that effort is I think what took the wind out of him. "I have to do that 16 more times" cannot be an easy thought to have run through your head.

Agreed. She had break points late in 2nd set that would have probably ended it, that she looked not quite right on. And losing all those points on serve in tiebreaker was unusual. Finally, it was with incredible effort that she broke to go up 2-0 in third, and it was obvious there was nothing left after that.

That's the best I've seen Sakkari play, she was hitting incredibly hard and still finding the court, kudos to Maria.
