Coyotes trade Dvorak to Montreal for a conditional 2022 1st + Habs 2024 2nd
As expected after the offer sheet
https://www.nhl.com/canadiens/news/c...Dvorak-Release
Quote:
Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced on Saturday that the team has acquired centreman Christian Dvorak from the Arizona Coyotes in return for two draft picks.
Arizona trades Dvorak to Montreal in exchange for: i) the better of Montreal's own 1st round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft and Carolina's 1st round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft (previously acquired by Montreal); and ii) Montreal's own 2nd round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft.
However, in the event that either or both of Montreal's own 1st round pick and/or Carolina's 1st round pick are Top 10 picks in the 2022 NHL Draft (after the final Draft order has been established in accordance with the results of the 2022 NHL Draft Lottery), then Montreal will instead transfer to Arizona: i) the worse of Montreal's own pick and Carolina's pick (previously acquired by Montreal); and ii) Montreal's own 2nd round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft.

If you're Arizona, do you want the Montreal first or the Carolina first?

I think the reason they had to wait to this long speculated trade, is because it will be Carolina's first.

Deal official. Arizona gets the better of Canes or Habs 2022 1st and Habs 2024 2nd
Condition on the 1st is that if either or both of Habs 2022 and Canes 2022 are top 10 picks after the lottery, Arizona gets the worse pick

Interesting, the 1st is which ever is better of the picks between Montreal and Carolina. What a home run by Arizona.

And on the back of SureLoss...the Habs would have to be insane to give it up.
Unless realignment happens again the Habs are going to suck hard this year. They want to keep that pick.

That's a lot to give up for a pretty mediocre player.

So if Montreal is decent, the Coyotes get the better pick.
If Montreal is horrible, Coyotes get the worse pick.
In any case the Coyotes have the tank part of rebuilding down pat. Unfortunately for them, that's the easy part.

Yeah the article update was annoying.
So the Coyotes get the better of the Canes or Habs first rounder UNLESS either or both of them are a top 10 pick after the lottery in which case the Coyotes get the worse pick.

So given the Habs roster and that division it will be a late 1st. That is great value for a player that should knock down 60+ points if he gets to play with decent players finally.

Glad Dvorak got moved, means it's probably Eichel or nothing at this point. And I doubt Hertl is an option with his 3-team NTC.

It's odd how Sam Reinhart, 40 points in 54 games on a horrible team, didn't fetch more than Dvorak. Reinhart got paid, but his contract is reasonable.
Arizona has done well fetching picks. But maybe they've gone too far. And a lot of their picks have come from young players - the type that are usually kept during a rebuild.
