Oiler fans complain about invisible stuff. It’s a fact that Ottawa got better before they played Calgary. If an Oiler fan complains about something legit, fine. If they complain about schedules (eg playing rested teams), the facts don’t back them.

All teams go through ebbs and flows. Calgary played lots of games vs. Montreal when Price was out. Montreal without Price were the worse team in the league. Montreal with a Price went to the finals. Which version did Calgary get, and why haven’t you factored that into the “luck” factor? That’s the invisible stuff you are complaining about.

Jake Allen and Carey Price put up almost iidentical save% and GAA last year.
They just quit scoring when Price was out iirc.
Anyhow.....and word on Kotkaniemi?

Yeah, Price only used his god mode cheat code in the POs.

It made me curious how the 2015-16 Flames trio started off, so I looked back. They allowed 56 GA in the first 13, so a comparatively tidy ~4.30 goals against per game
And yes, isn’t the 7 day window for Kotkaniemi up today?

Ottawa actually outplayed a bunch of teams off the bat, by shots for and against, anyway. I don’t think Calgary can be the biggest complainant. Maybe Ottawa would have actually had a shot at the POs with decent goaltending off the bat. Look at their last month versus their first.

They quit scoring likely because they know they needed to play a more defensive system with Price out. With him back, they likely played a different style.

Or maybe they just let the deadline pass without comment. When asked they will say “Jesperi? Oh, yeah, no we kinda forgot about him last week”.

Update: It looks like the Hurricanes have put their Bio in French just to troll the Canadiens.

That is so great. This whole fiasco has been more entertaining than all of the last NHL season!

don't think they'll match. Even if they do and wait until 4:59 to announce it, I think we'd have already heard rumblings ... but looks like it's been completely silent. Personally I'd take the picks too, but who knows what Bergevin is thinking.

This is the Entertainment though!
If I'm GM of the Habs there is no chance in hell I match that. Let the Canes have him and take the picks!
But alas...the drama continues. At least I get to watch this as a Neutral. I dont care either way.

I think Carolina is trying to upset the habs so they match. They probably realize how bad it is and are trying to trick the habs into matching it.

I think you're probably pretty close to right. The thing is, I dont think the Canes can lose this particular game of chicken.
If the Habs match they've lobbed a grenade at an opponent who is totally screwed against the Cap.
If the Habs take the picks those picks are going to be middling at best and the Canes probably get a decent player who meets their needs and probably takes a lower deal after that first year.
This seems like a lose/lose proposition for Montreal.
Its fantastic entertainment!
