Who's the best player you've ever watched?

He didn’t have the durability that Gretzky did but in terms of absolute peak he was the best. I saw his last game in Calgary and I think he put up 4 points. If you built the perfect player it’s Mario.

Best Flame probably Iggy but Nieuwy was special when he was on. And in some ways I think the answer is Makarov. He was inconsistent but he did things in certain moments that were utter jaw dropping

Jagr when he was with the Penguins. I swear he just stood around all game and still had 6 points. Crosby, he was all over the place doing everything thing a hockey player could do with or without the puck.

Sergei Makarov. He did things on the ice in his 30’s that I’d never seen before, and haven’t seen since.

Creatively skilled in ways that had to be seen to be believed.

I've been to all of about 8 nhl games and all were run of the mill mid season. But I will say the best player I ever watched was Brayden Point, I was at every game he played in MJ and he was just incredible to watch. I am so happy to see him carry it on to the next level. I remember thinking he was so small and I hoped he could manage a few years in the NHL and here he's got two cups and has been considered for the Conn Smythe! Morgan Reilly was a treat as well.

for the time period he played and what he was able to achieve, was really amazing. respected his play and hated him at the same time.

Theo was the best Flame I ever saw play. There was a stretch of about 3-4 years where he was the only reason to watch the Flames. IMO the most skilled Flames player I ever saw live. He would be the type of player today that fans would fawn over as he was a big little man that wouldn't be denied.

We had some great players in the late 80s early 90s

Somehow they all disappeared for nothing

Iginla was the only significant return I think

I grew up with the team in the 80's as my family had season tickets. So I got spoiled with Gretzky, Lemieux, Bossy, The CCCP teams etc.

For the single Flames player Kent Nilsson was the 'best' I suppose but I default to Lanny as I was at the games for his 500th goal and 1000th point. So perhaps a little bias there.

If it hadn't been for his back issues, no telling what his final numbers would have been. Same with Mario, even with his health deteriorating he was the better all around player compared to Gretzky.

Gretzky in his prime Oiler days was terrifying. Every time he had puck the anxiety level of the crowd in the Saddledome would palpably red-line.

I’ll second Makarov as a marvel to watch in-person, routinely doing things with the puck that other players wouldn’t even attempt. But his dramatically fluctuating give-a-crap meter from shift to shift was also evident.

Same with Nilsson. He was the reason I got interested in hockey. Supreme skills but soft as butter

Definitely Lemieux, was at the game after he came out of retirement and they trounced us 5-3(?).

The scary part was he didn't appear particularly fast but he was always exactly where he needed to be. IIRC, he had 2G 3A that game...

Back in the early 2000's I saw a game when Peter Forsberg used to own the Flames. That was the best I ever saw a player look in a NHL game.

Kiprusoff would be the best Flame I saw live.

Mario often got rested on the road in the later part of his career so as not to piss off the home fans. I always got tickets but there was no guarantee he would play. But when he did….
