Flames finish no higher than 27th out of 32. We lost Giordano and didn't add anyone of consequence, and our core is a year older and a year slower. Guys that should be in their primes have regressed. Blake Coleman will struggle to hit the twenty goal mark.
What's worse is that we have nobody pushing the established players for roster spots. Heck, our best prospect by far is an eighteen year old who is four or five years away from the NHL.

Flames keep their cap space and let it accumulate during the season.
They are middle of the pack offensively, but top 2 or 3 in the league defensively and are in the hunt for the division.
Mid season they trade a rather large futures package for a partially retained, and fully rehabbed Jack Eichel.
Not really a hot take I guess, more of a hopeful prediction.
